Bulldoze is a Physical Ground-type move that also lowers the target’s Speed stat by one stage.

Main stats can be lowered up to six times; here’s how much each stage modifies a stat value:

Stage Main Stat
0 x1
-1 x0.66
-2 x0.5
-3 x0.4
-4 x0.33
-5 x0.285
-6 x0.25

Lowering a Pokémon’s Speed limits the offensive capabilities of any Pokémon your opponent might have. If a sweeper gets their Speed reduced, it will be difficult for them to knock out your Pokémon without being damaged themselves.

Since Bulldoze only has 60 base power, it’s much more suited for utility and defensive Pokémon.

Offensive Pokémon would use Earthquake instead, because of the massive disparity in base power between the two moves.

And just like Earthquake, Bulldoze hits all adjacent Pokémon in Double Battles. This is primarily where Bulldoze is used, as lowering the Speed of both opponents in one turn is extremely useful.

However, Bulldoze also hits and lowers your ally’s Speed unless it’s immune to it. Although you can always use Protect to defend yourself from an ally’s Bulldoze as well.

Note: Bulldoze will not affect Flying-type Pokémon since they’re naturally immune to Ground-type moves. Pokémon with the ability Levitate and Pokémon holding an Air Balloon are also immune to Bulldoze.

Flying-types and Levitate users can only be hit by Bulldoze when they’re grounded. Items/moves like Iron Ball, Ingrain, Gravity, Smack Down, or Thousand Arrows can cause a Pokémon to be grounded.

Tip: Using Bulldoze while a Pokémon is in the middle of using Dig will double the Bulldoze’s damage. If you use Bulldoze while Grassy Terrain is in effect, the move’s damage is halved.
