How To Get TM94 Secret Power in Pokémon ORAS

Getting the Secret Power TM from Aarune (Pokémon Alpha Sapphire)

You can get TM94 Secret Power from an NPC named Aarune on Route 111. You can find Aarune in front of a tree in the northern section of the route. When you approach him, he’ll teach you all about Super-Secret Bases and give you the TM for Secret Power.

In battle, Secret Power is a Normal-type move that not only inflicts damage but also has a secondary effect that varies depending on the terrain of the battle.

Outside of battle, Secret Power unlocks the ability to create your own Secret Base from various Secret Spots scattered throughout Hoenn.

PP 20 (max. 32)

Secret Power is a Physical Normal-type move with a secondary effect that varies depending on the terrain where the battle is taking place.

But no matter which terrain you’re battling on, the move has a 30% chance of triggering its secondary effect.

Here’s a table outlining the effects of Secret Power on various terrains, how to identify the terrain you’re currently battling in, and the unique move animation used:

SCROLL
Terrain In-Battle Background Secondary Effect Move Animation Used
Buildings, plain terrain, and Link Battles 30% chance to paralyze the target Body Slam
Electric Terrain 30% chance to paralyze the target Thundershock
Grass and Grassy Terrain 30% chance to make the target fall asleep Needle Arm
Mt. Chimney and Jagged Pass 30% chance to burn the target Incinerate
Shoal Cave’s basement 30% chance to freeze the target Ice Shard
Caves 30% chance to make the target flinch Rock Throw
Mt. Pyre 30% chance to make the target flinch Shadow Sneak
Water and underwater 30% chance to lower the target’s Attack by one stage Water Pulse
Misty Terrain 30% chance to lower the target’s Special Attack by one stage Fairy Wind
Soaring in the Sky and Sky Pillar 30% chance to lower the target’s Speed by one stage Gust
Beaches or Route 111’s Desert Area 30% chance to lower the target’s Accuracy by one stage Mud-Slap
Outer Space (One-time battle with Deoxys) 30% chance to make the target flinch Swift

When it comes to competitive play, Secret Power sees no play at all. This is primarily due to the fact that all Link Battles take place on the same field, so Secret Power has the same effect most of the time.

Given its mediocre base power of 70, it’s essentially just a weaker version of Body Slam.

It is possible to change the terrain with moves like Electric Terrain, Grassy Terrain, or Misty Terrain. But there’s no scenario where it’s worth spending a turn just to alter Secret Power’s secondary effect.

However, in a single-player playthrough, Secret Power can be a fun move to play around with when you’re out exploring the varied landscapes of Hoenn.

It’s also worth adding that this move has a wide distribution, so most Pokémon are able to learn it.

Super-Secret Bases & Secret Spots

Super-Secret Bases in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are a revamped version of the Secret Base feature from the original Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games. This new feature greatly enhances one of the most beloved parts of those games.

And just like in the originals, TM94 Secret Power is integral to unlocking this feature.

These hideouts are created by using Secret Power on specific locations known as Secret Spots scattered throughout Hoenn.

These spots are signified by distinct markings on cave walls, bushes, or trees (as pictured above).

When you use Secret Power on these marked spots, an entrance opens up, letting you go inside and start decorating your very own secret base.

Once you’ve decided where to set up your Secret Base, you and your friends can engage in a wide range of activities.

Secret Bases come packed with features too, allowing you to customize your hideout, share your base with other players, participate in a team-based ‘Capture the Flag’ feature, and even establish your own battle rules – effectively transforming your base into a Pokémon Gym.
