You can get TM94 Secret Power from an NPC named Aarune on Route 111. You can find Aarune in front of a tree in the northern section of the route. When you approach him, he’ll teach you all about Super-Secret Bases and give you the TM for Secret Power.
In battle, Secret Power is a Normal-type move that not only inflicts damage but also has a secondary effect that varies depending on the terrain of the battle.
Outside of battle, Secret Power unlocks the ability to create your own Secret Base from various Secret Spots scattered throughout Hoenn.
TM94 Secret Power Location (Step-by-Step)
Here’s a list of all the prerequisites you’ll need before you can get TM94:
- Get the third Gym Badge from Wattson, the Mauville City Gym Leader
- Have a Pokémon with HM06 Rock Smash
- Have access to Route 111
Once you’re ready, start from the northern entrance of Mauville City:
Step 1: After exiting Mauville City going north, follow the path heading north on Route 111.
Step 2: Keep heading north, passing a Pokémon Breeder and the Winstrate Family’s house.
Step 3: You’ll run into a bunch of breakable rocks. Use HM06 Rock Smash to clear the way and continue north.
Step 4: After you pass by a camper, take a left turn towards Route 112.
Step 5: Keep going west until you find yourself on Route 112. If it’s your first visit, your rival will give you HM04 Strength in a quick cutscene.
Step 6: After that, head north to the base of Mt. Chimney by climbing the staircase.
Step 7: After climbing the staircase, make your way northwest and locate the entrance to Fiery Path.
Step 8: Enter Fiery Path and take a left turn down the stairs – then just follow this path along going north.
Step 9: From there, continue north past the large boulder.
Step 10: At the end of the path, make a right and you’ll soon reach the exit of the cave.
Step 11: You should now be on the northern section of Route 112.
From here, navigate east past the Street Thug.
Step 12: Eventually you’ll reach the northern part of Route 111. To continue north, you’ll need to take on an Ace Trainer in a battle.
Step 13: Continue northeast and you’ll eventually spot Aarune in front of a tree, which is actually a Secret Spot.
Step 14: Approach Aarune and he’ll introduce you to the concept of Super-Secret Bases. He will also give you TM94 Secret Power as well.
During the cutscene, Aarune provides you with your first Secret Base and the necessary items to start decorating and personalizing your new hideout.
TM94 Secret Power Details + Uses
|Secret Power Move Details|
|PP||20 (max. 32)|
Secret Power is a Physical Normal-type move with a secondary effect that varies depending on the terrain where the battle is taking place.
But no matter which terrain you’re battling on, the move has a 30% chance of triggering its secondary effect.
Here’s a table outlining the effects of Secret Power on various terrains, how to identify the terrain you’re currently battling in, and the unique move animation used:
|Terrain||In-Battle Background||Secondary Effect||Move Animation Used|
|Buildings, plain terrain, and Link Battles||30% chance to paralyze the target||Body Slam|
|Electric Terrain||30% chance to paralyze the target||Thundershock|
|Grass and Grassy Terrain||30% chance to make the target fall asleep||Needle Arm|
|Mt. Chimney and Jagged Pass||30% chance to burn the target||Incinerate|
|Shoal Cave’s basement||30% chance to freeze the target||Ice Shard|
|Caves||30% chance to make the target flinch||Rock Throw|
|Mt. Pyre||30% chance to make the target flinch||Shadow Sneak|
|Water and underwater||30% chance to lower the target’s Attack by one stage||Water Pulse|
|Misty Terrain||30% chance to lower the target’s Special Attack by one stage||Fairy Wind|
|Soaring in the Sky and Sky Pillar||30% chance to lower the target’s Speed by one stage||Gust|
|Beaches or Route 111’s Desert Area||30% chance to lower the target’s Accuracy by one stage||Mud-Slap|
|Outer Space (One-time battle with Deoxys)||30% chance to make the target flinch||Swift|
When it comes to competitive play, Secret Power sees no play at all. This is primarily due to the fact that all Link Battles take place on the same field, so Secret Power has the same effect most of the time.
Given its mediocre base power of 70, it’s essentially just a weaker version of Body Slam.
It is possible to change the terrain with moves like Electric Terrain, Grassy Terrain, or Misty Terrain. But there’s no scenario where it’s worth spending a turn just to alter Secret Power’s secondary effect.
However, in a single-player playthrough, Secret Power can be a fun move to play around with when you’re out exploring the varied landscapes of Hoenn.
It’s also worth adding that this move has a wide distribution, so most Pokémon are able to learn it.
Super-Secret Bases & Secret Spots
Super-Secret Bases in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are a revamped version of the Secret Base feature from the original Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games. This new feature greatly enhances one of the most beloved parts of those games.
And just like in the originals, TM94 Secret Power is integral to unlocking this feature.
These hideouts are created by using Secret Power on specific locations known as Secret Spots scattered throughout Hoenn.
These spots are signified by distinct markings on cave walls, bushes, or trees (as pictured above).
When you use Secret Power on these marked spots, an entrance opens up, letting you go inside and start decorating your very own secret base.
Once you’ve decided where to set up your Secret Base, you and your friends can engage in a wide range of activities.
Secret Bases come packed with features too, allowing you to customize your hideout, share your base with other players, participate in a team-based ‘Capture the Flag’ feature, and even establish your own battle rules – effectively transforming your base into a Pokémon Gym.
