Where To Get the Pure Incense in Pokémon Platinum

The Pure Incense on Route 221 (Pokémon Platinum)

You’ll find the Pure Incense on Route 221, just west of the house with the blue roof by Pal Park.

This area is not blocked by trees or water, so you should be able to pick up the Pure Incense as soon as you have access to Route 221.

The Pure Incense is located on Route 221. You’ll find it on the ground just west of the blue-roofed house where the old man lives.

The easiest way to get to this area is by Flying to Pal Park and traveling west.

Uses in the Overworld

The Pure Incense is a Hold Item that cuts the encounter rate of wild Pokémon by one-third if the holder is the first Pokémon in your party.

Its effect is identical to that of the Cleanse Tag.

You probably won’t be using the Pure Incense for this purpose though.

Mostly because it isn’t available until late in the game, and by then you should have long since obtained the Cleanse Tag anyways.

What’s more, Super Repels are abundant in stores by this point in the game, with Max Repels not far off. And both of those items are much more effective at preventing random Pokémon encounters than the Pure Incense.

If you’re too low on funds to afford Repels and somehow don’t have access to a Cleanse Tag, the Pure Incense is better at keeping the wild hordes off you than nothing.

But better options exist.

Uses Outside of Battle

You can give the Pure Incense to any Chimecho (or any Pokémon that can breed with a Chimecho) and every egg they breed together has a chance to be a Chingling egg, Chimecho’s pre-evolution form.

Here are your options for pairings:

  • Two Chimecho of opposite genders
  • A Chimecho and a Ditto
  • Or Chimecho and a Pokémon from Chimecho’s Egg Group

Just place them in the Solaceon Day Care, giving one parent the Pure Incense to hold.

If you’re not sure where the Day Care is, just head northwest from the Solaceon Town PokeCenter.

Then leave and walk around for a while, and return to the Day Care Center and speak with the Day-Care Man outside. If your Pokémon have made an Egg, he will give it to you.

You can also check your Pokémon’s Egg status on the Day-Care Checker Pokétch App screen, which will display a picture of an Egg if your couple have produced one.

To hatch an Egg, you just have to carry it in your party while you take a certain number of steps—in the case of getting a baby Chingling, you’ll need to walk between 6,425 and 6,681 steps.

Tip: If you have a Pokémon in your party with the Flame Body or Magma Armor Abilities then the required number of steps will be halved.

If you follow this whole process and don’t mind hatching a few eggs then you should end up with a Chingling.
