  2. One copy of the TM can be found on a mountain on Route 211, east of Celestic Town. Rock Climb is required to reach the TM’s location.

At 10,000 Coins, Psychic is one of the priciest items in the game.

The Coins for this TM must either be:

  • Won on at the slot machines at the Game Corner, which can be very time-consuming
  • Or purchased outright, which will cost 200,000 PokéDollars in total for 10,000 Coins

There is a copy of TM29 Psychic sitting on Route 211, though it isn’t obtainable until much later in the game.

Reaching it requires a Pokémon with Rock Climb, which you can’t even use outside of battle until you defeat Leader Candice in Snowpoint City.

But once you have a Pokémon with Rock Climb in your party, Fly to Celestic Town and head west from the Pokémon Center.

In-game description of TM29 Psychic.

Psychic is a damage-inflicting Psychic-type special move with a high base power stat. It also has a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat by one stage.

Psychic Move Details
Type Psychic
Category Special
Power 90
Accuracy 100%
PP 10 (max. 16)

Psychic has been one of the most reliable Psychic-type moves since the first Generation.

Psychic-type Pokémon tend to have high Special Attack stats. So a special move with a base power of 90, an accuracy stat of 100%, and no drawbacks is perfect for hard-hitting Psychics like Alakazam and Gardevoir.

The 10% chance at reducing the target’s Special Defense stat is small, but it’s vicious when it hits.

Tip: If used in a Pokémon Contest, Psychic will earn the user 2 Appeal Points, plus 2 bonus Appeal Points if it is the first move used in a turn.
