There are two ways you can get TM29 Psychic in Platinum:
- Unlimited copies of the TM can be purchased from the Prize Exchange in Veilstone City. They cost 10,000 Coins apiece, which must be won or bought from the Game Corner next door.
- One copy of the TM can be found on a mountain on Route 211, east of Celestic Town. Rock Climb is required to reach the TM’s location.
Psychic is a damage-dealing, Psychic-type special attack that also has a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat by one stage.
Getting TM29 Psychic (All Methods)
Location #1: Veilstone City Game Corner (Repeatable)
Your first opportunity to obtain TM29 Psychic is at Veilstone City’s Game Corner and Prize Exchange.
To reach these buildings, just head south from Veilstone’s Pokémon Center on the main street.
Then take the nearest staircase up to the two small buildings.
The blue building on the right is the Prize Exchange, where you will be able to purchase TM29 Psychic from the vendor at the counter.
At 10,000 Coins, Psychic is one of the priciest items in the game.
The Coins for this TM must either be:
- Won on at the slot machines at the Game Corner, which can be very time-consuming
- Or purchased outright, which will cost 200,000 PokéDollars in total for 10,000 Coins
Location #2: Route 211 (Once-only)
There is a copy of TM29 Psychic sitting on Route 211, though it isn’t obtainable until much later in the game.
Reaching it requires a Pokémon with Rock Climb, which you can’t even use outside of battle until you defeat Leader Candice in Snowpoint City.
But once you have a Pokémon with Rock Climb in your party, Fly to Celestic Town and head west from the Pokémon Center.
Ignore the stairs, and turn north when you reach a wall. Then take the next turn west, leading out of the town and onto Route 211.
Climb the first staircase you see to the north to reach a rocky area with some NPCs. Then continue west on the new elevated terrain.
Use Rock Climb on the rocky wall directly beside the green-haired Ace Trainer NPC.
Up on this new landing, you’ll see an overworld item on the ledge – this is TM29 Psychic.
Psychic Details + Uses
Psychic is a damage-inflicting Psychic-type special move with a high base power stat. It also has a 10% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat by one stage.
|Psychic Move Details|
|PP||10 (max. 16)|
Psychic has been one of the most reliable Psychic-type moves since the first Generation.
Psychic-type Pokémon tend to have high Special Attack stats. So a special move with a base power of 90, an accuracy stat of 100%, and no drawbacks is perfect for hard-hitting Psychics like Alakazam and Gardevoir.
The 10% chance at reducing the target’s Special Defense stat is small, but it’s vicious when it hits.
Tip: If used in a Pokémon Contest, Psychic will earn the user 2 Appeal Points, plus 2 bonus Appeal Points if it is the first move used in a turn.
