Finding TM35 Flamethrower

The Fuego Ironworks building is a big puzzle.

On the facility’s floor are innumerable yellow Spin Tiles with red arrows on them; stepping on one will send you spinning out of control in the direction that the arrow indicates.

And you’ll be unable to change direction until something breaks your momentum.

Here’s the exact path to follow to reach TM35:

From the entrance, head left and step on the Spin Tile to see the puzzle’s mechanism in action.

Each copy of TM35 Flamethrower costs 10,000 Coins, which you must obtain from the Game Corner next door.

You can either get coins by purchasing them or by winning them from the slot machines.

The PokéDollar-to-Coin exchange rate is 1,000 PokéDollars for 50 Coins (or 10,000 PokéDollars for 500 Coins).

So it would cost 200,000 PokéDollars to purchase TM35 Flamethrower using money alone. But this is the only way to get multiple copies of TM35 in the game.

Flamethrower Details and Uses

In-game description for TM35 Flamethrower / Pokémon Platinum
In-game description for TM35 Flamethrower.

Flamethrower is a damage-dealing Fire-type special move that also has a 10% chance of inflicting the target with a burn.

Flamethrower Move Details
Type Fire
Category Special
Power 90
Accuracy 100%
PP 15 (max. 24)

Flamethrower is like the Fire-type version of Psychic: a strong, dependable special move with little in the way of frills or tricks.

The 10% chance of burning the opponent isn’t high enough to rely on. But this is to be expected considering the toll a burn status can take, both from the constant damage and from the 50% Attack decrease.

If you’re lucky enough to inflict burn on an opponent, it can utterly ruin them if they’re not prepared to defend against it.

There is also some debate over whether Flamethrower or Fire Blast is the better Fire-type move.

Fire Blast hits harder with a 120 base power (110 after Generation IV), but it’s also hindered by two drawbacks: an 85% accuracy stat and a PP of 5.

In the main game, Flamethrower’s higher PP makes it the clear winner. But otherwise the more preferable move depends on your purposes and play style.

Miscellaneous Info about Flamethrower

  • Using Flamethrower in harsh sunlight will boost its power by 50%, making Sunny Day a good move to use in tandem with it.
  • TM35 can be sold for 1,500 PokéDollars.
  • If Flamethrower is used in a Pokémon Contest, it will earn the user 2 Appeal Points, plus 2 bonus appeal Points if the user acts first in that turn.
