How To Get TM46 Thief in Pokémon Platinum

The only copy of TM46 Thief is located in Eterna City, on a dirt path behind the Team Galactic Eterna Building.

You will need to have defeated Eterna’s Gym Leader Gardenia, and be able to use the Hidden Move Cut in order to reach this TM.

Thief is a Dark-type physical move. It inflicts damage on the target Pokémon, and steals its Held Item.

TM46 Thief Location (Step-by-Step)

TM46 Thief is found behind the Team Galactic Eterna Building, at the northernmost edge of Eterna City. You will have already seen this building; it’s the big, spiky structure encircled by a yellow, Saturn-like ring.

Until now, it’s been inaccessible due to some trees blocking its entrance.

But once you defeat Gym Leader Gardenia for the Forest Badge, you can use Cut outside of battle to chop down those trees and enter the premises.

Once you’ve obtained the Forest Badge and have a Pokémon that can use Cut, head north on Eterna’s main road.

At the northern end of town, Team Galactic’s Eterna Building will become visible.

Use cut on one of the trees blocking the entrance, then enter the property, skirting the building to the right until you reach another cuttable tree.

Chop this second tree down as well, and continue on the path to the right.

There is only one way to go from here, and it will lead you directly to TM46 Thief, visible in the overworld as a Pokéball item.

Note: Before using it on a Pokémon, keep in mind that this is the only copy of TM46 Thief in the game.

Thief Details + Uses

Thief is a Dark-type physical move that deals damage to the target Pokémon. If the target is holding an item, the user will steal it with a 99.6% chance of success.

Here are some interesting takeaways from the move Thief:

• A Pokémon using Thief will fail to steal from a Pokémon that is hiding behind a Substitute.
  • Attempts to steal from Pokémon who have the Multitype or Sticky Hold abilities will be similarly unsuccessful.
• A held Griseous Orb cannot be stolen using Thief.
• If the consumption of a certain type of Held Item, such as a Focus Sash or a Colbur Berry, is triggered by the use of Thief, the item will be used up before the user has a chance to steal it.
