Where To Get the Wave Incense in Pokémon Platinum

The Wave Incense on Route 210 in Pokémon Platinum

The Wave Incense is located on Route 210 on a small strip of land east of Celestic Town. But to reach this incense you will need the HMs for Defog, Surf, and Waterfall.

The Wave Incense is a Held Item that has a couple uses.

In battle, it boosts the power of Water-type moves by 20%; outside of battle, it is used in Pokémon breeding to help Mantine produce Mantyke Eggs.

The Wave Incense is located on Route 210, specifically on a stretch of land to the east of Celestic Town.

Finding it requires Pokémon that know the following Hidden Moves:

Once you have Pokémon that know these moves in your party, Fly to Celestic Town and head out of town to the northeast.

Once you hit Route 210, the field will become choked with fog.

Use Defog to blow it away and improve visibility.

With the fog clear, head down the stairs to your right and cross the bridge.

Then go down the second staircase as well. Once you’re at the bottom of the stairs, use Surf on the stream of water on the left-hand side.

Directly past the bridge is a second waterfall (this is also where the stream of water leads you).

Use Waterfall to climb up & keep surfing.

Uses In Battle

The Wave Incense is a Hold Item that boosts the power of Water-type moves by 20%, giving it the same effect as the Mystic Water.

The ideal holder of a Wave Incense is a Water-type Pokémon (for added STAB damage) with high Attack and/or Special Attack, depending on the Pokémon’s moveset.

That said, there are other items with higher (and sometimes less limiting) move boosts compared to the Wave Incense.

For example:

  • The Life Orb increases the power of all moves by 30%, but saps 10% of the holder’s maximum HP to perform each attack.
  • Choice Bands and Choice Specs increase physical and special move damage by 50%, respectively, but at the cost of the holder being locked into using the same move for the rest of the battle.

Even if the Wave Incense isn’t as interesting as other stat-boosting items, it is a safer and viable option for Water move users.

Uses Outside of Battle

If two Mantine of opposite genders (or a Mantine and a Ditto/Pokémon from Mantine’s Egg Group) are placed in the Solaceon Day Care, you can give the Wave Incense to Pokémon to hold.

This can result in them breeding and producing Eggs containing Mantyke, which is Mantine’s pre-evolution form.

Here’s a quick guide on how this works:

Once a Pokémon is holding the Wave Incense, take both Pokémon to the Pokémon Day Care in Solaceon Town, which is located northwest of the Pokémon Center.

After walking around for a while, return to the Day Care Center and speak with the Day-Care Man outside. If your Pokémon have made an Egg, he will give it to you.

You can also check your Pokémon’s Egg status on the Day-Care Checker Pokétch App screen. This will display a picture of an Egg if one is produced.

To hatch an Egg, you have to carry it in your party while you take a certain number of steps—in this case you’ll need between 6,425 and 6,681 steps in total.

Tip: If you have a Pokémon in your party with the Flame Body or Magma Armor Abilities, the number of steps will be halved.

If you follow the process as described, a Mantyke will eventually hatch from the Egg.
