You’ll find a Pokéball containing TM08 Body Slam inside a room on the S.S Anne in Vermillion City. The room is the 2nd one from the left-hand side on the first floor of the ship.
A waiter NPC will be standing near the room.
But you won’t be able to get onto the S.S Anne until you get the S.S ticket from Bill at his house on Route 25.
Prerequisites
This is what you need to do before you can get TM08:
- Obtain the S.S Ticket from Bill at his house at the northeast edge of Route 25
Getting TM08 Body Slam
Starting from the Vermillion City Pokémon Center, head southeast.
When you reach the officer next to the Poké Mart, head east.
Once you reach the start of the dock, walk along the path.
At the end of the path, you’ll be greeted by a sailor. He’ll check for your S.S Ticket and if you have it, he’ll let you onto the S.S Anne.
After entering the S.S Anne, head southwest until you see a waiter NPC.
The room containing TM08 Body Slam will be the one in front of the waiter NPC. It’s also the 2nd room from the left.
Once inside the room, you’ll find the Pokéball containing TM08 near the southwest corner of the room.
There’s a Youngster below you that can’t be avoided and must be fought to reach TM08.

---|---|
Type | Normal |
Power | 85 |
Accuracy | 100% |
PP | 15 (max. 24) |
Effect | 30% chance of paralyzing the opposing Pokémon. |
Body Slam is one of the best Normal type attacks in Gen 1. It has the best balance of power and accuracy of any of the Normal type moves in the game.
It’s stronger than moves like Mega Punch and Strength, it has more accuracy than moves like Mega Kick and Egg Bomb, and it doesn’t cause recoil damage like Double Edge.
Body Slam also has a 30% chance of paralyzing an opposing Pokémon if it successfully hits.
Typically the percent chance of inflicting status conditions or lowering stats is lower with higher powered moves.
The fact that Body Slam has a 30% chance for paralysis as a move with 85 power makes it incredibly useful. The only downside is that Body Slam can’t paralyze Normal-type Pokémon in Gen 1.
But if you have a Pokémon with a good attack stat, especially if it’s a Normal type Pokémon, then Body Slam is a great move worth using – especially since you can get it in the earlier part of the game.
