|Victory Road. 3rd floor (3F). Northwest corner on the ground above a set of rocks.
TM47 Explosion can be found on the 3rd floor of Victory Road. The TM is located in the northwest corner on the ground here, so it will require Strength to move around some boulders to reach it.
This is what you need to do before you can get TM47:
- Defeat the 8 gym leaders and collect the 8 gym badges
- Obtain HM03 Surf from the man in the secret house of the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City
- Obtain HM04 Strength from the Safari Warden in Fuchsia City by returning his Gold Teeth
- Have Pokémon in your party that know Surf and Strength
Getting TM47 Explosion
Starting from the inside of Victory Road, walk northwest towards the boulder on the ground.
Once you’re behind the boulder, use a Pokémon with Strength to push the boulder down once, and then east towards a red circular switch.
After pushing the boulder onto the switch, head back to where the boulder originally was and head up the stairs onto the giant rock.
Walk northeast along the rock until the path splits.
At the path split, head down the stairs to your left and then head north until you see a ladder.
There’s a trainer (Cooltrainer♀) nearby, but she can be avoided if you walk beneath her.
There’s another Cooltrainer♂ near the ladder on this floor but he can be avoided if you walk on his left side.
Head up the ladder to the 2nd floor.
Once you’re on the 2nd floor, walk southeast until you see another boulder.
Then use a Pokémon with Strength to push the boulder southwest towards a red circular switch here.
After pushing the boulder onto the switch, head north and go up the stairs onto the giant rock platform. Then head west & go down another set of stairs on the rock.
There’s a Blackbelt NPC nearby, but he can be avoided if you walk above him.
After walking down the stairs, head east until the path bends.
Once the path bends, head northwest until you’re beneath a ladder going up.
Take this ladder to the 3rd floor.
Once you’re on the 3rd floor, head northwest so that you’re passing over a giant rock structure.
Once you’re past the giant rock, turn south until you see a Pokéball on the ground. This contains TM47 Explosion.
Explosion Details + Uses
|Explosion Move Details
|5 (max. 8)
|Makes the user faint after using the move. Halves the opposing Pokémon’s defense during damage calculation.
Explosion is the strongest Normal type attack in the game. This is due to its raw power stat, but also because the opposing Pokémon’s Defense is halved during damage calculation.
So Explosion’s base power can actually be thought of as being 340.
The downside of Explosion is that the user faints after the move is used.
The user faints even if the move misses or the opposing Pokémon is unaffected. (For example, if Explosion is used against a Ghost type Pokémon.)
So if you wisely incorporate Explosion into your battle strategy (for example, having a Pokémon on your team for the sole purpose of using Explosion) then this move can be a devastating attack. Otherwise it’s probably just worth selling it for the extra cash.
