Chapter Prologue: Speaking with the Townspeople

Following the events of Yokmir Cave and Yokmir Forest, you’ll need four Rune Spheres to save Venti.

Tip: If you want additional content that you can only access in this part of the game, talk to all the townspeople. They’ll say what they know about the Rune Spheres.

The one who knows the exact location of the next Rune Sphere is Dylas. Talk to him if you want to see what he says about it.

After this, your next destination is the Water Ruins (again).

Make sure to pack healing items first, and you can also invite an NPC or a tamed monster to join you on your journey.

Returning to the Water Ruins

Head to the Water Ruins when you’re ready.

If you’ve forgotten where this is, you can use our step-by-step location guide that shows you exactly how to reach the Water Ruins.

At the Water Ruins, your task is to explore the west side of the structure.

As soon as you enter, take the path heading west.

Next up is a wide area with a couple of mobs. You can just go straight towards the west and enter the next room.

Finding Chimera

The next room has a huge hole in the center with a fallen pillar acting as a bridge to the opposite side of the room.

Feel free to cross over to the other side and mine the minerals located there.

When you’re ready, head up the stairs located along the northern edge of the room.

The next room also has a fallen pillar serving as a path to a small platform with a treasure chest on it.

Just head to the top part of the room to reach the accessible point of the pillar. Then cross over the gap using the fallen pillar, and then grab the items in the chest. It’ll have an Aquamarine and Bronze inside.

TIP: Open the chest first before clearing the mobs here so that you don’t accidentally break the chest.

When you’re ready, go up north in this area and you’ll see a journal next to a set of stairs leading outside.

That staircase leads to the boss you’ll need to face to get the Rune Sphere.

Just be sure to save beforehand, because this boss’ difficulty might just take you by surprise.

Then take the staircase on the left-hand side next to the journal.

As soon as you get outside, you’ll see a treasure chest before you.

The scene will then pan up to reveal the Water Ruins’ second boss: Chimera.

As soon as you’re able to, run for the treasure chest to pick up the Water Laser spell inside.

Boss Fight: How To Beat Chimera

Chimera is a boss that inflicts damage and debuffs on you.

It’s recommended that you have several Antidotes and Para-Gones in your inventory for this battle. The stage for this fight is also quite narrow, so you might find it difficult to dodge Chimera’s attacks.

Phase 1: Chimera Normal

Attacks
  • Short-range melee – Chimera will lunge at you and bite you. This may inflict the poison and paralyze debuffs on its victims.
  • Long-range melee – Chimera will charge at you, dealing damage through the collision.
  • Long-range – Chimera will shoot out orbs of water from its mouth towards you.
  • Mid-range – Chimera will shoot out a short beam of water from its tail.
  • Mid-range – Chimera will shoot out orbs of fire from its tail.
  • Short-range – Chimera will stomp on the ground and beams of light will appear from underground in front of it. The beams deal damage to those they touch.
Fighting Tips Run close to Chimera if you use a melee weapon.

Just be sure to dash to the side when Chimera does its attacks, then attack its side. Don’t dash to the side before it attacks, because Chimera’s gaze will follow you until the very instant it starts performing the attack.

Phase 2: Chimera Enraged

Attacks Chimera’s attacks in this phase are similar to its previous phase. The biggest difference is Chimera’s speed and range.

The range of its water beam attack will reach opposite ends of the stage, so you’re gonna need to dash to the side to avoid it.
Fighting Tips It’s easy to die if you get hit even once by Chimera’s attacks here.

If you’re struggling with this fight, take a healer like Arthur with you or another damage-dealer. Adding an NPC or a tamed monster to your party will help tremendously in this battle.

After a short cutscene, you’ll need to head to the prior boss area where you faced Thunderbolt.

To get there, head back to the entrance of the Water Ruins and then take the path going north.

From there, you’ll need to head up north again through a darkened doorway. Through this doorway is where you first faced Thunderbolt.

When you get inside the boss area, head towards the center of the stage. You’ll be able to interact with it.

When you do, you’ll place the Rune Sphere on the ground, and the place will light up –indicating your mission is a success.

Doug will then appear after you lay down the Rune Sphere.

He’ll challenge you again, then he’ll run off.
