Chickens can be purchased from Lillia at PoPoultry Ranch and raised on your farm. They only cost 1,500 G each, and healthy hens will lay fresh eggs every single day as adults.
You can also place those eggs into your incubator in the Coop to hatch new chickens and grow your flock.
This guide will teach you everything you need to know about taking care of chickens, and the things you can do with Eggs in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.
How To Get a Chicken
There are actually two methods to obtaining a chicken: buying one or hatching them from eggs.
All coop animals (Chickens and Angora Rabbits) will be available for purchase at PoPoultry. So this is how you’ll initially get your first chicken.
You can buy these animals from Lillia.
1. Purchasing from PoPoultry Ranch
The only way you can get your first chicken is by buying it at PoPoultry Ranch.
PoPoultry is located on the right side of your farm. Lillia will keep the shop open from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, except for Sundays and holidays.
Upon entering, you’ll see the owner Lillia at the counter.
Interact with her to open the shop’s menu and select the chicken you want to purchase.
You can choose from a white or brown chicken, but there’s no real difference between the two aside from their colors.
Take note that you’ll need to have the following before you can buy the chicken:
- 1,500 G
- Available space for a new animal in the coop
The basic coop can hold a total of 4 animals, but you can buy a coop upgrade from Gotts to house up to 8 animals.
Along with your new animal, you’ll also need to stock up on Chicken and Rabbit Feed. This costs 10 G per serving from Lillia’s store.
But there’s also a way to make it yourself:
If you have extra Corn laying around the farm, feed it into the Water Mill beside the coop. One ear of Corn will turn into 30 bags of Chicken Feed.
There will be a designated trough inside the coop for you to place the Chicken Feed.
Make sure that you only add enough for the number of chickens you actually have, because any uneaten food will just disappear the next day.
2. Breeding Chicks from Eggs
Breeding chickens is much simpler compared to breeding barn animals like cows or sheep.
You can just take an Egg from one of your existing chickens, and then place it into the coop’s built-in incubator.
The new chick will hatch after 3 days, and it will have one higher heart level than its parent.
For example, if you place an Egg from a chicken with 5 maximum hearts in the incubator, the new chick will have a maximum limit of 6 heart levels.
After 7 days, the chick will turn into a fully grown adult chicken and will start to lay its own eggs.
Taking Care of Chickens
A chicken will only lay eggs if it’s been fed the day before, even when it has maximum hearts.
You’ll also need to maintain a higher friendship level if you want to have quality Eggs for each harvest.

You can raise your chicken’s LP by doing the following tasks at least once a day:
1. Talking to them
Stand next to the chicken and press the action button to interact.
The chicken will respond with a heart pop-up if they like you.
2. Hand feeding
Equip a bag of Chicken and Rabbit Feed and interact with the chicken to feed them by hand.
This is the best way to feed your animals if you want to boost your friendship with them quickly – and it also guarantees that they’ve been fed at the same time!
3. Grazing outside
If the weather is sunny, you can take the chickens outside and let them graze. To open the door and let them out, ring the bell located on the right side of the coop.
The chickens will head out of the coop and lounge around the farm while you work.
At 8 PM, the bell automatically rings again and they’ll make their way back inside on their own.
What To Do With Eggs
Eggs can be used in recipes, or to make Mayonnaise.
But no matter what you use them for, they’re an essential part of life in Mineral Town.
Selling Eggs
The quality of the Egg is dependent on the chicken’s heart level.
This is why taking care of your chicken is so important, because higher friendship means a higher selling price.
You can also unlock better prices by completing certain in-game events, like the Cluck-Cluck Clash Festival.

Making Mayonnaise with Eggs
The Eggs you harvest can be processed into Mayonnaise after you unlock the Maker Machines from Saibara.
To do that, you’ll first need to upgrade your coop to a bigger size.
To upgrade the Coop, head over to Gotts’ Workshop south of Mineral Town with the following items:
- 5,000 G
- 350 Wood
- 200 Stone
After you upgrade the size of your coop, you’ll receive a letter in the mail from Saibara telling you that his Maker Machines are finally available for purchase.
Each Machine will sell for 20,000 G and one piece of Adamantite.
You can only buy one Mayonnaise Maker for the coop, and it will be installed inside exactly one day after the purchase.
You can then start adding stacks of Eggs (up to 9 at a time) to process them into Mayonnaise.
This Mayonnaise will sell at different prices depending on the quality of Eggs used.
Quality | Sell Price | Sell Price (Friday) |
---|---|---|
S Mayonnaise | 100 G | 105 G and above |
M Mayonnaise | 150 G | 157 G and above |

G Mayonnaise | 300 G | 315 G and above |

If you can’t afford the Mayonnaise Maker yet, or if you don’t want to upgrade the coop, you can also make Mayo in your kitchen.
