Every year on Summer 1st, Zack hosts the Fetch Fest Festival on the Beach. You can bring along one of your adult pets and play and try to get the highest score for a Power Berry prize.

Requirements

On Spring 30th, the day before the Fetch Fest, Zack will visit the farm to ask if you want to join the contest.

Select “Enter” to join, and you’ll be able to nominate one of your pets for the game. After you choose a pet, Zack will take them for the day in preparation for tomorrow’s festival.

Getting an Adult Pet

To actually join the Fetch Fest in the first place, you’ll need to have at least one adult pet living on your farm. Pets do not include barn/coop animals or the Horse.

To get an adult pet & join the festival, you’ll need to accomplish the following:

Step #1: Unlock Van

Van is a traveling merchant that starts to visit Mineral Town after you give the Harvest Goddess a total of 30 liked offerings.

You’ll know that Van is in town when he visits you on the first Wednesday after unlocking him.

Step #2: Buy a pet

After Van is unlocked, he’ll set up a pet store every 15th day of the season in Rose Plaza.

He will stay at the booth from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, provided that it isn’t raining on that day. If it rains, Van will not appear at the booth.

The pets available in his store will vary depending on the season.

You can only buy one pet at a time, and all your existing pets must be at 8 friendship hearts or more before you can buy another one.

Van’s Pet Store List
Season Pet Price
Spring (Cats) American Shorthair 20,000 G
Bengal
Calico
Summer (Penguins) Penguin 30,000 G
Navy Penguin
Autumn (Dogs) Mineral Dog 10,000 G
Black Shibu 20,000 G
Papillon
Winter (Capybaras) Capybara 30,000 G
White Capybara

Step #3: Raising the Pet to Adulthood

After adopting your new pet, you’ll need to take care of it and raise it to adulthood. They will be considered fully grown after 60 days.

Performing the following actions at least once a day will raise your pet’s friendship level by 1 FP for each:

  • Talking/petting
  • Whistling
  • Giving Pet Treats

Tip: Pet Treats can also be bought from Van’s shop in Rose Plaza for 1,000 G.

Getting the Frisbee

If you check your Pet Relationship menu, each of your pets will have a red/green progress bar with a little red Frisbee icon.

This bar measures their skill level at playing Frisbee, which correlates to how likely they are to win the Fetch Fest.

To start training your pet, you’ll need to buy a Frisbee first. You can find one in Huang’s shop for 5,000 G.

But the Frisbee will only be available in his shop after Autumn 1st of your first year.

Here’s how to use the Frisbee for training:

Place the Frisbee in your backpack, then head over to Mineral Beach and interact with the blue sign between Kai’s cafe and Zack’s house. You don’t need to bring your pet for this to start the game.

The Frisbee minigame will begin, and you can start playing with your pet. The distance that they can catch the Frisbee is limited to how much green they have in their progress bar.

The more you train with them, the better they’ll become at the game!

You can track their progress using the skill progress bar in their Relationships tab. The same bar will also appear on the left side of the screen when you’re playing Frisbee.

The higher the level of the green bar, the more skilled your pet will be at Frisbee.

Training your pet to a high enough level will be the best thing you can do to basically guarantee a win at the Fetch Fest.

Event Details

Anytime between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, you can head over to Mineral Beach to start the Fetch Fest.

To get to Mineral Beach, head east from the path above your farm and keep going right after you reach Rose Plaza. Go down the stairs and enter the Beach from there.

Once you get there, feel free to interact with all the villagers and enjoy the festival! When you’re ready to play, talk to Zack to start the contest.

The same Frisbee game interface will appear, but you’ll have to beat the high score counter on the upper right side of the screen to win the game.

You will have two tries to beat the high score. This is where your Frisbee training will come in handy since it will be easier for your pet to catch at large distances.
