Fishing is one of the ways to make money in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. While you’re waiting for your buildings to be upgraded or for your crops to finally grow, fishing can be a great way to spend your downtime and turn a profit at the same time.
Catching all 50 Normal Fish available in the game will award you with the Master Angler achievement from the Harvest Goddess. This is also a requirement if you want to marry either the Harvest Goddess or Kappa.
How To Get the Fishing Rod
You’ll need to claim your Fishing Rod at the start of the game from Zack.
Here are the requirements needed to unlock the Fishing Rod cutscene:
- It is between 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM of any day, season, or year
- Zack is inside his house on Mineral Beach
- There is at least one empty space in the farmer’s Tool Bag
Once you have your Fishing Rod, you can start to fish wherever there’s water around town.
Fishing Locations + How To Fish
There are many fishing spots in Mineral Town that you can visit in any season, such as:
- The bridge leading to the Summit
- Mother’s Lake
- The Harvest Goddess’ waterfall
- River
- Secret Forest pond
- Ocean (Mineral Beach)
Simply equip your Fishing Rod from the tool pocket and press your action button while standing next to any body of water to start fishing.
When you get a bite just reel it in – and if you’re quick enough then you’ll pull something out of the water (usually fish, but possibly other items too).
How To Upgrade Your Fishing Rod
You can start fishing right away after getting the Fishing Rod from Zack.
However, this basic tool will only let you catch Small and Medium Fish.
To truly maximize your fishing profits, you’ll need to upgrade your Fishing Rod. These upgrades can be bought from Saibara at the Forge. As you progress in the game, you can unlock higher-level upgrades to help you catch bigger and better fish.
Like all your other tools, you can upgrade your Fishing Rod a total of 7 times.

Non-Fish Items You Can Catch
Aside from fish, you can also reel up trash or rare collectible items.
The trash isn’t very profitable, selling for 1 G each if you put them in the Shipping Bin.
However, you can get up to 67,000 G by selling any of the rare treasures you catch! There is one treasure available per season, and they require at least a Mithril Fishing Rod or higher to reel in.
All of these can be caught in the Ocean:
