How To Get Golden Eggs in Story of Seasons: FoMT

Holding a Golden Egg outside the Chicken Coop in SoS:FoMT

Golden Eggs are the fourth most expensive egg you can get in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. To lay a Golden Egg, you must have a chicken with the following prerequisites:

  • 8-10 hearts
  • Winner of the Cluck Cluck Clash Festival
  • Less than 1,000 hours outside

This guide will walk you through the process of breeding your chickens to produce Golden Eggs and how to use them.

How To Raise Your Chicken’s Heart Level

A chicken will need a minimum of 8 hearts to produce a Golden Egg, which is equivalent to 200 Love Points. You can check your relationship with your chickens by viewing the Animal Relationships tab in your game menu. One heart level indicates 25 LP.

Here’s how to get your chickens up to 8 hearts or more:

1. Breed Your Chickens

When you buy a chicken from PoPoultry Ranch, Lillia will give you a chicken that has a maximum of 5 hearts. The only way to obtain chickens with a higher maximum heart level is to breed them by placing an Egg into the Coop’s incubator or nesting box.

The new chick will hatch after 7 days, and it will have one higher heart level than its parent! For example, if you place an Egg from a chicken with 5 maximum hearts in the incubator, the new chick will have a maximum of 6 heart levels.

When the chick matures and starts to lay its own eggs, you can then place those into the incubator and hatch chickens with a maximum of 7 hearts.

Continue doing this until you hatch a chicken with 8 maximum hearts – you can even keep going until you get one with 10 hearts!

Tip: Don’t sell the parent chicken before the egg hatches, because the new chicken will only be born with 6 maximum hearts no matter how high its parent’s heart level was.

2. Increase Love Points

Now that there’s a new chick in the Coop, you have to raise it until maturity and make sure it’s loved!

A chicken will only lay eggs if it’s been fed the day before, even when it has maximum LP. You will also need to maintain its hearts to a level above 8 for them to actually hatch a Golden Egg.

You can raise your chicken’s LP by doing the following tasks at least once a day:

  • Talking to them – stand next to the chicken and press the action button to interact
  • Hand feeding – equip a bag of Chicken and Rabbit Feed and interact with the chicken to feed
  • Grazing – let your chickens out on the farm for at least 5 hours a day by ringing the bell

Each of these actions will add 1 LP to your chicken’s affection.

Thankfully there’s no heart decay in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town when it comes to farm animals. They won’t die either or get eaten by wolves.

So after a chicken reaches 8 hearts, the only thing you need to do is feed it daily to continuously harvest Eggs.

How To Win the Cluck Cluck Clash Festival

Once your chicken gets to 8 hearts, you’re already halfway there.

The next thing you need to do is win the Cluck Cluck Clash Festival, held every year on Summer 7th.

The day before the festival on Summer 6th, Rick will visit the farm to invite you to the festival and ask you to choose a chicken for the competition. For a higher chance of winning, make sure your chicken has at least 5 hearts or more!

You can then walk into Mineral Town the next day between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The tournament will start once you talk to Rick, who will be hanging around the plaza.

Your chicken will be competing against other chickens for 3 straight rounds. Your chicken wins the round if it manages to scare the other chicken off the mat. If you aren’t fast or responsive enough, you could lose if you allow your chicken to run off.

Winning the festival is mostly based on luck, but a good trick is to wait until the opposing chicken is within a good range to start spamming the “startle” action.

Once your chicken wins the festival, it can now lay Golden, Platinum, or X Eggs!

This achievement is individual for each chicken, so if you want more chickens to produce Golden Eggs you’ll need to enter the festival again next year with a new chicken.

Keeping Your Golden Chicken

After the Golden Egg is unlocked, you now need to be cautious with your chicken because it could start to produce Platinum Eggs instead. This happens when they spend more than 1,000 hours outside on the farm.

If you want to keep harvesting only Golden Eggs forever, take care to leave this specific chicken inside the Coop so they don’t accidentally log too many hours outside.

Once they start to produce Platinum Eggs, you’ll have to start over again from scratch with another chicken.

You can also sell Golden Eggs to Huang once you become friends with him at 4 friendship notes!

To sell the egg to Huang, stand in front of his counter while holding the item. Don’t interact directly with his sprite from behind the counter, as that will register as a gift instead.

Since the Golden Egg is a regular item, you won’t be able to haggle the prices with Huang. He will offer you the same price that you would typically earn from shipping the item instead.

But as a special offer, Huang will pay an additional 5% (or more) for any Egg products on Tuesdays.
