SoS: FoMT Hammer Tool Guide (How To Upgrade + How To Use It)

The Hammer is the only tool you can use in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town to break stones, collect ore, and gather Material Stone.

As you upgrade the Hammer, you can go from breaking small stones to destroying boulders in one hit.

This guide lists all the ways to use the Hammer, and how to upgrade it at the Blacksmith’s Forge for maximum efficiency.

How To Use the Hammer

The most basic use for the Hammer is to remove the debris on your farm at the start of your game. Each swing of the basic Hammer will cost you 2 STA.

The farmer harvests Material Stone in the Mine.

Each stone will turn into one piece of Material Stone, which you can collect for upgrades at Gotts’ Workshop.

Aside from the smaller rocks, you can also use the Hammer on the boulders scattered around Mineral Town. You’ll need to upgrade to a Silver Hammer first to break boulders.

Most notable is the large boulder behind the Bamboo Thicket on Mother’s Hill because this enables access to an extra forest area where forageables will spawn.

Debris will also spawn in the South Forest, Meadow, and Mineral Beach.

You can also use your Hammer to smash rocks in the Spring Mine and in the Winter Mine. This will allow you to collect rare ores that you can use to upgrade your tools (including upgrading your Hammer!)

All Hammer Upgrades

You need a lot of Material Stone for farm building upgrades, so it can be time-consuming to collect them one by one from rocks in the Mine or your farm.

If you can’t afford to buy Material Stone directly from Gotts yet, upgrading your Hammer can make it more efficient to collect resources.

Each upgrade will decrease the number of hits you need to break a boulder.

Below is a list of all Hammer upgrades and what they each allow you to do.

After you’ve successfully claimed your upgraded Hammer, hold the action button to “charge” and use it with more power.
