SoS: FoMT Hoe Tool Guide (How To Upgrade + How To Use It)

The first step to planting seeds in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is to hoe the ground to till the soil and get it ready to accept seeds.

Using the Hoe to till a square tile of land in your field will allow you to plant one seed bag, which takes up a 3×3 field per bag.

This guide lists all the ways to use the Hoe, and how to upgrade it at the Blacksmith’s Forge for maximum efficiency.

How To Use the Hoe

To use the Hoe, just stand in front of a tillable area and use the action button.

Each swing of the basic Hoe will cost you 2 STA.

The farmer hoes a single tile on the farm.

Sometimes you can get coins or even a Power Berry by tilling the ground in your field.

Tip: A mole can also pop up on your farm while tilling land – and if you successfully whack 100 moles, you can get 1 Farm Degree Point to add to your achievements.

Keep hoeing the ground until you’ve created at least a 3×3 square of tilled soil. Then you can finally use the seed bag to cover the whole area.

The farmer plants a 3×3 Turnip field.

Remember to water the seeds using the Watering Can after you’ve planted them!

All Hoe Upgrades

Tilling each tile on your farm one by one is a really time-consuming task – and it can use up all of your stamina before you know it.

Upgrading the Hoe is the best way to make this chore more efficient. And these upgrades even make it easier to create custom layouts in your field!

The farmer buys a Hoe upgrade from Saibara.

After you’ve successfully claimed your upgraded Hoe, hold the action button to “charge” and use it with more power.
