Every year on Summer 20th, the Moo-Moo Festival is held in Mineral Town’s plaza to showcase prize cows.

To win the Moo-Moo Festival you’ll need an adult cow with at least 8 hearts, or as close to 7 hearts as possible. Your winning cow will then be able to produce Gold quality Milk (or higher).

Requirements + How To Enter

#1: Have an Adult Cow

The only thing you need to be able to enter the contest is to have one adult cow on your farm.

A baby calf can be bought from Mugi at Yodel Ranch. They will cost 5,000 G each.

The farmer buys a cow from Mugi.

After 9 days inside the barn, it will mature into a fully grown cow. At this point you can start to harvest Milk daily.

To harvest higher-quality Milk though, you’ll need to take good care of your cows and raise your friendship level with them.

You can check your friendship level with each cow by opening the Animal Relationships menu and looking at the number of hearts.

The cows you buy from Mugi will have a maximum of 5 hearts, but you can breed them by purchasing Mugi’s Breeding Kits for 3,000 G.

Each time you breed a cow, the calf will have +1 more maximum hearts than the parent cow. These newborn calves will take 23 days to fully mature into an adult.

The farmer uses the Breeding Kit on a cow.

Performing the following actions at least once a day will raise your animal’s friendship level by 1 FP for each cow:

Brushing (with the Brush)
Talking/petting
Hand feeding
Grazing (open the Barn door for a minimum of 5 hours)

Once your cow turns into an adult, they’re ready for the Moo-Moo Festival.

#2: Getting Mugi’s Invitation

On Summer 19th, the day before the festival, Mugi will visit your farm and formally invite you to join the Moo-Moo Festival. You’ll run into him when you exit the farmhouse in the morning.

You’re given the option to accept the invitation and choose any adult cow you want to enter into the contest.

Note: Pregnant cows will not be allowed to join.

The farmer enters a cow into the Moo-Moo Festival.

Cows are judged based on affection levels, so choose the one with the highest number of hearts (ideally 8+ hearts for an almost guaranteed victory).

Mugi will then take your cow for the day to prepare for tomorrow’s festival.

Tip: A cow will only need to win the Moo-Moo Festival once to be able to produce Gold quality Milk. There’s no need to enter them multiple years in a row if they’ve already competed before.

Event Details

To join the festival, enter the plaza after 10:00 AM on Summer 20th. Just head east from the path above your farm until you reach the very end, and go up.

You’re free to walk around the plaza first and greet some of the villagers if you’d like extra FP with anyone.

When you’re ready to start the contest, talk to Mugi at the northwest side of the plaza to begin.

How To Win

Mugi will basically just walk around the plaza and inspect the cows, then announce a winner.

To win the festival, your cow needs to have at least 8 hearts or more since they’re judged according to friendship levels with the farmer. This is generally the only metric that matters, so it’s really crucial to take good care of whatever cow you plan to enter.

If your cow wins the festival, then afterwards it’ll be able to produce Gold, Platinum, or X Milk.

The Golden Cow Trophy

The first time you win the Moo-Moo Festival, Mugi will present you with a Golden Cow Trophy.

This trophy can be displayed in your farmhouse after the event.

Golden Milk from your Cow

If your cow has 8 hearts or more when it wins the Moo-Moo Festival, it will start producing Gold (G) quality Milk the very next day.

The farmer harvests G Milk.

Depending on the cow’s existing stats, it may also start to produce Platinum or X Milk.

Getting Extra Friendship Points

Just like any other festival, simply showing up will earn you a decent amount of Friendship Points with all of the villagers.

Selling G/P/X Milk

Gold, Platinum, or X Milk can be sold via Zack and the Shipping Bin just like any regular item.

The farmer drops a bottle of X Milk into the Shipping Bin.

You can also sell Milk to Huang once you become friends with him at 4 friendship notes.

To sell the Milk to Huang, stand in front of his counter while holding the item and interact with him over the counter. Don’t interact directly with his sprite, because this will register as a gift instead.
