Sheep and Alpacas are barn animals that can be bought from Mugi at Yodel Ranch for 4,000 G each. They produce Wool, which can be processed into Yarn and sold for a high price.
This guide will cover both Sheep and Alpacas in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, teaching you everything you need to know about breeding, raising them, and harvesting their fleece.
How To Get a Sheep or Alpaca
There are two ways you can get these barn animals: buying them directly from Yodel Ranch or breeding them.
Breeding requires you to already have an adult Sheep or Alpaca on your farm, so initially you have to buy your first animal from Mugi.
Option #1: Purchasing from Yodel Ranch
All the barn animals, like Cows, Sheep, and Alpacas, are available at Mugi’s shop.
Yodel Ranch is located at the lower right portion of Mineral Town, easily accessible from any of the paths. Mugi is available at the shop from 10 AM to 3 PM, except for Mondays and holidays.
Upon entering, you’ll see the owner Mugi at the counter.
Interact with him to open the shop’s menu and select the animal you want to buy.
Here are the prerequisites you’ll need before you can buy a Sheep or Alpaca:
- 4,000 G
- Available space for a new animal in the barn
Along with your new animal, you’ll also need to buy Fodder for 10 G each.
Note: You can also harvest fodder by yourself by using the Sickle on the wild grass growing on the farm.
Once your new Sheep or Alpaca is comfortable in their new home, you can place the Fodder into the feeding troughs provided inside the barn to feed them.
Option #2: Breeding
Sheep and Alpaca Breeding Kits can also be bought from Mugi’s shop for 3,000 G each.
To use the Breeding Kit, equip it from your toolbox and interact with the animal. Make sure that the Sheep or Alpaca has fully regrown its fleece first, or the Breeding Kit will not work.
After 21-30 days, you’ll have a new baby Sheep or Alpaca!
Feeding the pregnant animal every day before it gives birth will make the pregnancy shorter, and the new baby will have one higher maximum heart level than its parent.
For example, if you used the Breeding Kit on a Sheep with 5 maximum hearts, the new Sheep will have a maximum of 6 heart levels.
Note: Each baby Sheep or Alpaca will become fully grown in 20 days, and it will finally start to grow its fleece at that point. If you feed them daily, they can mature into adults in as little as 14 days.
Wool & Fleece Shearing
Sheep and Alpacas can produce fleece every 7 days. They will continue to regrow their fleece even if they haven’t been fed, but taking care of them will increase friendship and boost the quality of the Wool or Fleece you harvest.
You can harvest wool by purchasing the Clippers from Saibara’s Forge for 1,800 G.
You can also unlock better prices from selling higher quality Wool by completing certain in-game events, like the Fluffy Festival.

Taking Care of Sheep and Alpacas
Doing any of these activities once a day will let you earn +1 FP for each action:
Tip #1: Talking to them
Simply talking to your barn animals once every day is an effective way to earn their affection.
While you’re dropping by the barn on your daily routine, take a few seconds to interact with each one.
Tip #2: Brushing
The brush can be bought from Saibara at the Forge for 800 G.
Equip the Brush tool and interact with your barn animals to groom them once each day.
Tip #3: Hand Feeding
Taking the time to manually hand-feed each animal inside the barn is an easy way to boost their friendship level.
Just hold a piece of Fodder from your inventory and interact with any animal to hand feed them.
Tip #4: Grazing
If the weather is sunny, you can take all your animals outside and let them graze on the farm (as long as you have grass growing).
To open the door, just ring the bell located on the left side of the barn.
The animals will head out of the barn by themselves and lounge around the farm while you work. At 8 PM, the bell automatically rings again and they’ll make their way back inside on their own.
What To Do with Wool & Fleece
To get a bundle of Wool or Fleece, just equip the Clippers and interact with whatever animal has fully grown fleece ready to harvest.
Selling Wool & Fleece
The quality of the fleece you get is dependent on each animal’s heart level.
This is why taking care of your livestock is important, because higher friendship means a higher selling price for their products.

Wool and Fleece Products
Sheep Wool and Alpaca Fleece can also be processed into Yarn after you unlock the Maker Machines from Saibara.
First, you’ll need to upgrade the Coop to the Big Coop with the help of Gotts. The day after the renovations are complete, you’ll receive a letter in the mail from Saibara about his Maker Machines.
You can now buy a Yarn Maker for your Coop to process Wool and Fleece into Yarn.
Getting the Yarn Maker will cost you 20,000 G and one piece of Adamantite.
Each bundle of Yarn will also sell at different prices depending on the quality of the Fleece/Wool you used.
Yarn Selling Guide | |
---|---|
Yarn | Selling Price |
S Yarn | 530 G |
M Yarn | 920 G |
L Yarn | 1,400 G |
G Yarn | 2,000 G |
P Yarn | 2,800 G |
X Yarn | 3,200 G |
However it’s noteworthy that you’ll start to lose money if you process G-quality Fleece or higher, since they start to become more expensive.
At that point you can just directly throw the fleece into the Shipping Bin since you’d earn more from the G-quality Fleece/Wool than from G-quality Yarn.
