Gwen is the first spirit you’ll ever meet, and she will actually teach you the basics of the role of Spiritfarer.
This guide will cover Gwen’s complete quest line step-by-step, as well as her characteristics, mood factors, and more.
How To Get Gwen
You first meet Gwen in Alt Harbor, right after Charon hands you over the role.
Just jump on the buildings to reach her spirit at the top. Additionally, this part of the game will also teach you how Spiritfarer’s platforming mechanics work.
After talking, she will then lead you to your boat, before revealing her true form and starting her quest line.
Gwen’s Complete Quest Line
Set Sail, Captain!
Start this request by sailing towards Albert’s Shipyard, located at X: 61, Y: 64.
Then talk to Alex in order to get the Beginner Blueprint Station Upgrade.
Next, head back to the boat and interact with the trash to salvage it and get 10 Maple Planks and a bunch of other materials.
The planks are then used to build Gwen’s Guest House in your blueprint station, under the “Unique Buildings” tab.
I Get Cranky When I’m Hungry
After a while, Gwen will talk to you and introduce you to the game’s first minigame: the Jellyfish Event.
She will ask you to sail towards a new location revealed on the map, and the minigame will start once you arrive and talk to her.
During this event, all you need to do is hit the jellyfish passing by through the ship.
Regular jellyfish will give you game currency called Glims, while green jellyfish will give Bright Jelly.
We also created a full guide of the Jellyfish Event if you’d want more information.
After the event, you should have collected enough Bright Jelly to build the Kitchen from your Blueprint Station, which Gwen will instruct you to do.
Once you’ve built the kitchen, Gwen will teach you how to cook, and then will hand you some corn to make Popcorn with.
Head inside the kitchen and put the corn inside the oven.
A timer will then appear, and the popcorn will be ready once the timer finishes counting down. This process is the same for all dishes, although the waiting time varies for each recipe.
Once you have your popcorn, interact with Gwen again and give her the popcorn from your inventory to boost her mood and finish the request. She will also hand you an Obol after.
Seeds for the Future
For this request, Gwen will give you a new island to visit: Mosstein Cove.
Once on the island, Gwen will teach you how to cut trees.
This is done by interacting with the highlighted trees and sawing back and forth until you get the logs.
After that, keep heading right and jump over the water to find a limestone node. You can mine this by holding the interact button and letting go once the axe is glowing.
If you don’t let go at all, the axe will explode and you will need to repeat the process.
Keep hitting the node until you get limestone.
You can explore some more of the island if you wish, but to continue the request you’d need to sail towards another new island on your World Map: Hummingberg.
Once you get to Hummingberg, walk to the center of the island village until you find a Raccoon Shop.
The seed prices will initially be super expensive, but after talking to Gwen, the prices should go down. Buy some linen seeds for 70 Glims each.
Head back to your ship after and look for the Field building in your Blueprint Station. You’ll need to build the Field to plant your seeds for this request.
Here’s all the materials this building requires:
- 15 Maple Logs
- 3 Limestones
Note: You should already have these materials from your previous Mosstein Cove visit.
Once you’ve built the field, head inside and interact with any of the plots of land to plant linen seeds.
Water the seeds, and Gwen will officially end the request and the game’s tutorial section.
The More, The Merrier
Right after the tutorial, Gwen will ask you to recruit more spirits. This divides the request into two parts:
So we’ll start by sailing towards the island of Barkensheim Creek, located to the left of Hummingberg.
After arriving, walk right until you find a short spirit standing beside the water. This is Atul, and he will immediately give you the “Sticky Fingers” request upon talking to him (he’ll ask you to retrieve his lemon in the water).
To do this, jump in the water and dive (hold down and press jump button) in the part where you can see a glimmer.
After getting the lemon, hand it to Atul and he will join your ship right after.
Note: The second part of this request can only be completed once you have the Obol that Atul will give you after his “Nice Catch” request.
Once you have two obols, head back to Hummingberg and interact with the shrine that Gwen introduced earlier.
Then exchange your two obols to unlock Stella’s double jump ability.
After that, continue heading right until you find the broken ladder right beside the Raccoon Shop.
Double jump to reach this ladder and climb on the platform above, then keep heading right until you find a ladder that goes down.
You’ll find a small platform with a bench below. Talk to the spirit sitting on it, and she will immediately join your boat as Stella’s aunt: Summer.
Once Summer reveals her true form on the ship, Gwen’s request will end.
Spring Feet
After getting the Obol from Atul, Gwen will talk to you to give this request. It will automatically end once you acquire the double jump ability from Hummingberg.
Usonia 1
After completing a couple of Summer and Atul’s requests, Gwen will talk to you again and ask for her own space, since they no longer fit in the Guest House.
She will then give you the Gwen’s Lodge blueprint, which requires:
- 10 Maple Logs
- 2 Limestones
This unique building is found under the 2nd tab of the blueprint station, and we have a detailed guide on how to build Gwen’s Lodge if you need more info.
Gwen will end the request once her lodge is built.
Cut from the Same Cloth
During this request, Gwen will talk to you and ask for a Loom on the ship.
This building is unlocked via the Hobbyist Blueprint Station, so you’ll need to head over to Albert’s Shipyard to purchase the upgrade. The upgrade itself requires:
- 2 Maple Logs
- 1 Limestone
For a more detailed breakdown of this upgrade you can read our full Blueprint Station Guide.
Once you have the Hobbyist upgrade, head back to your blueprint station at the ship and look for the Loom.
This building requires these materials:
- 10 Maple Logs
- 8 Quartz
The request automatically ends once you have the building on your ship.
Basic Moves
After building the Loom, Gwen will head inside and teach you how to use it.
She will also give you some fiber to use.
The Loom minigame works like this:
- Interact with the machine and input the material you want to use. You can input up to 50 of the same item.
- Hold the interact button until Stella hits the yellow marker.
- The more accurately you hit the marker, the more output you get.
The request will end after the Loom minigame.
Back to the Past
After a while, Gwen will talk to you again and tell you about her family’s old mansion, as well as its location.
Upon your arrival at the island, go up the stairs and head right to find Gwen on the balcony. She will hand you the key to the villa, and ask you to find her old music box.
However, your objective at the captain’s log is to find the Loom Upgrade.
Here’s where to find it:
Step 1: Enter through the front door and head right (where there’s light inside) until you find the ladder at the very end.
Step 2: Go up to the second floor and head left until you find another ladder. Go up this ladder to reach the fourth floor.
Step 3: From the fourth floor, head left and go down another ladder to the second floor.
Step 4: Head left until you find the next ladder, then go down to the first floor.
Step 5: Keep heading left towards the next ladder that’s all the way beside the wall, and use that to climb up the second floor.
Step 6: Walk towards the right to find the next ladder, and climb up to the third floor.
Step 7: Finally, walk right and climb the final ladder.
Step 8: Interact with the door to reach the balcony with the spirit and the chest. This contains both the Loom upgrade and Gwen’s music box.
Jump down to where Gwen is and give her the music box. This ends the request.
More than Meets the Eye
Gwen will now ask you to use the blueprint you found to upgrade the Loom.
To do this, head to your blueprint station, go to the “improve” tab, and click the Loom. This upgrade requires:
- 10 Maple Planks
- 18 Linen Threads
- 8 Bright Jellies
Once built, Gwen will head inside and ask you to weave threads into fabrics via the same minigame. The request will end right after.
Pretty On the Inside
Next up, Gwen will talk to you and ask for her cabin to get improved.
For this, you will need to get three decorations. Here’s a complete list:
Upgrade | Required Materials |
---|---|
Reading Corner |
|
Bookcase |
|
Wall Decorations |
|
You can also check out our Gwen’s Lodge Guide for a more in-depth breakdown of getting all these materials.
After getting all of the improvements, Gwen will head inside and end the request.
Taking Time Off
The next time Gwen talks to you, she will say that she feels off and needs her own space. She will then disappear from the boat.
After a while (or after you’ve done other errands), go inside her lodge to find that she’s still nowhere to be found.
This ends the request and immediately starts the next one.
I Must Be Off
For this next request, you will need to look for Gwen.
As she’s nowhere on the ship, head back to Villa Maggiore. You’ll find her standing on the far right of her house, and she will talk to you. She will also ask for a hug, and the request will end right after.
One Last Time
Once you’re back on the ship, Gwen will talk to you on the ship’s bow and say that she’s ready to leave.
So you’ll need to sail towards the Everdoor, located right in the middle of the map.
Once you’re there, Gwen will go to the back of the boat, say her goodbye, and go to the little dinghy with you.
Next you’ll find Stella paddling along the water with Gwen talking. At the end, Gwen will leave for Everdoor.
After a short animation, Stella will find herself in a platforming section.
During this section, just follow the violet butterflies and interact with them whenever they stay at one place to reveal a memory with Gwen.
You will repeat this process a few times, with easy platforming sections in-between. At the very end, you’ll encounter the giant owl Hades for the first time.
After he’s finished talking to you, you’ll find yourself back on the ship, and Gwen’s Spirit Flower can be found in her bed inside her lodge.
This ends Gwen’s questline in the game.
Characteristics
Gwen introduces herself as Stella’s best friend and ‘sister’ figure when she was still alive.
Like all of the spirits that will board your ship, Gwen’s mood is affected by what happens there. Luckily, you can always keep her mood up by giving her coffee and hugs.
By contrast, she gets annoyed by the morning bell, and whenever she’s hungry.
Her food preferences are:
- Favorite Food: Black Coffee
- Likes: Comfort Food and Fine Dining Food
- Dislikes: Fruit and any dish with shellfish
Gwen also provides perks by visiting the loom and making threads and cloths. She will then give these to you when you talk to her.
Mini-Game
Gwen will also introduce you to the Jellyfish event, where you sail to dark purple areas on the map and catch jellyfish for bright jelly and glims.
Note that you can still do this event even after Gwen leaves.
