How To Get the Lax Incense in Pokémon Platinum

Near the hidden Lax Incense on Route 225 (Pokémon Platinum)

The Lax Incense is found on the ground on Route 225. But you will need the Cut HM to reach the item’s exact location.

As for what it does:

The Lax Incense is a Hold Item that allows Wobbuffet to produce Wynaut eggs through breeding. Or as a regular held item in battle, it lowers the foe’s accuracy.

The Lax Incense is found on Route 225 in the Battle Zone.

Route 225 is just a short distance north of the Fight Area. To access it, you must first have received the National Pokédex from Professor Rowan after seeing all 150 Sinnoh-region Pokémon.

You’ll also need a Pokémon in your party that can use Cut to reach the Lax Incense. Surf isn’t necessary, but it is recommended for taking a shortcut through Route 225.

Once you’re prepared, go to the Fight Area and head west from the Fight Area Pokémon Center.

Turn north to pass through some space between the blue shipping containers (you’ll pass by a sign post as you move north).

From there, pass under the bridge by heading to the left, then circle around south to climb some stairs and cross the same bridge you just passed under.

From here you can pass or battle the Ace Trainer on the hill, but either way your goal is to descend the next staircase in the top-right corner of this hill.

When you reach a white house, turn and look towards the left.

A Poké Ball item should be just barely visible in a small clearing behind some cuttable trees to the left of the house. Use Cut to break through the trees and get to the item.

In Battle

The Lax Incense produces a distracting odor, lowering the opponent’s accuracy by 10% in each battle.

Holding this item basically causes one out of every ten moves used against your Pokémon to fail, which is always a welcome effect.

It can even be combined with accuracy/evasion-changing moves (like Sand Attack and Double Team) and Abilities (like Sand Veil and Snow Cloak) to make the holder even harder to hit.

This isn’t a game-changing item in battle. But it’s an extra boon that can make fights slightly easier.

So if you have a Pokémon in your party that needs a Hold Item, there are no downsides to this one.

Outside of Battle

You can also give Lax Incense as a held item to certain breedable Pokémon (Wobbuffet or any others that can breed with Wobbuffets). This can result in the Pokémon producing eggs containing Wynaut, Wobbuffet’s pre-evolution form.

You can do this by giving the Lax Incense to one Pokémon in any of these pairs:

  • Two Wobbuffets of opposite genders
  • A Wobbuffet and a Ditto
  • Or a Wobbuffet + a Pokémon from Wobbuffet’s Egg Group

When these breedable Pokémon are placed in the Solaceon Day-Care Center, you just have to give one of them the Lax Incense to hold. This has a chance to result eggs that contain a Wynaut.

Here’s a quick rundown of how the process works.

First, find any Pokémon that can breed with a Wobbuffet and give it the Lax Incense to hold (or give it to your Wobbuffet).

Then take both Pokémon to the Day Care Center in Solaceon Town, northwest of the Solaceon Pokémon Center.

After walking around for a while, return to the Day Care Center and speak with the Day-Care Man outside.

If your Pokémon have made an Egg, he will give it to you.

You can also check your Pokémon’s Egg status on the Day-Care Checker Pokétch App screen. This will display a picture of an Egg if your two lovers have produced one.

To hatch an Egg, you just have to carry it in your Pokémon party while you take a certain number of steps—in the case of hatching a Wynaut you’ll need between 5,140 and 5,396 steps.

But if you have a Pokémon in your party with the Flame Body or Magma Armor Abilities, that number will be halved.
