All Arceus Plate Locations in Pokémon ORAS (All 17 Plates)

Arceus in its base form in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire

There are a total of 17 Arceus Plates scattered across Hoenn. Most of them are hidden underwater (except for the Iron Plate), so you need to stand at their exact location to pick them up.

To access their locations, you need HM03 Surf and HM07 Dive (along with the Mind Badge).

In the case of the Iron Plate, you need to become the Pokémon League Champion first to obtain it from Steven’s house in Mossdeep City. So that plate is only available in the post-game.

These held items are described as stone tablets that alter the form of Arceus and its signature move, Judgement, based on the type of the Plate it is holding. Additionally, the Plates boost the power of Type moves when held by a Pokémon.

Prerequisites

Due to all of the Plates’ locations being primarily underwater, you will need HM03 Surf and HM07 Dive (along with the Mind Badge) to access their locations.

To obtain the Iron Plate, however, you need to beat the Elite Four and the Champion first.

Unlike the other plates, the Iron Plate is not a hidden item you can pick up from the ground. Instead, Steven will give you a Beldum holding the Iron Plate after you become the Pokémon League Champion.

Locations of All Plates (Step-by-Step)

Diving underwater on Route 127.

You can obtain the majority of the Plates underwater, primarily on the eastern side of the Hoenn region (Routes 124 to 130).

The Flame Plate is the only one you can find on Route 107, while the Iron Plate is obtained in Mossdeep City.

Tip: There are some routes containing three or four Plates within the same area. In this case, it’s best to collect all the Plates per route first before moving on to the next location.

Here’s a rundown of each Plate’s type and location to give you an overview:

How the Plates affect Arceus

Arceus has a total of 18 forms, including its base form (Normal-type). Its ability, Multitype, allows it to change its type to match whichever Plate it is holding.

The Plates also change the type of its Level 100 signature move: Judgement.

When changing forms, Arceus’s appearance will be altered slightly as well: its eyes, hooves, and the cross-like wheel around its abdomen will match the color of the Plate it is holding.

In Pokémon ORAS, you can only naturally obtain Arceus through events and trading.

So unless you’re willing to use cheats to get Arceus, it may not be a practical choice for a Pokémon on your team in a typical playthrough.

But even if you can’t get your hands on an Arceus, the Plates are still decent held items that you can give to other Pokémon in your party for an easy power boost.
