Light Screen is a defensive move that cuts the damage dealt by special moves. When used in battle, Light Screen will reduce the damage from special moves by about ⅓ (1,364/4,096).

Light Screen lasts for five turns.

Note: If the Light Screen user is holding a Light Clay, then Light Screen will last for eight turns instead. Light Screen will remain active even after the user switches out.

Combined with Psychium Z, Light Screen becomes Z-Light Screen. Along with Light Screen’s original effect, Z-Light Screen also boosts the user’s Special Defense stat by one stage.

In competitive play, Light Screen is a very popular move. As a staple on stall and defensive teams, Light Screen is often used in conjunction with Reflect. This strategy is commonly known as “Dual Screens”.

In a main story playthrough, Light Screen is a niche move. Light Screen is a good defensive option if you are struggling against physical-based Totem Pokémon. But overall, Light Screen isn’t particularly useful. Most opponents in the main story are too weak, making the move unnecessary.

Tip: The move Defog will automatically disable Light Screen. Likewise, the move Brick Break will also remove Light Screen. Pokémon with the ability Infiltrator will ignore Light Screen’s damage reduction.
