Facing our rival at Cherrygrove City.

The first battle against your rival occurs after visiting Mr. Pokémon. Your rival approaches you as you exit Cherrygrove City on your way back to New Bark Town.

At this point, he only has a Starter Pokémon. He’ll pick whichever Starter has a type advantage against yours.

You’ll be surprised by your rival for the fourth time as you enter Team Rocket’s Underground Warehouse in Goldenrod City.

This happens shortly after you collect seven Gym Bages and Team Rocket takes over the Goldenrod Radio Tower.

Final Battle & Rematches: Indigo Plateau

Rival approaches as we head for the Elite Four challenge at the Indigo Plateau.

After defeating your rival at Mt. Moon, he shows up at the Indigo Plateau on every Monday and Wednesday each week. He’ll approach you near the stairs leading up to the Elite Four and challenge you to a Pokémon battle against his ultimate team.

You can repeat this battle every time you defeat the Elite Four.
