Where To Get the Map Card in Pokémon Crystal

The Old Man NPC that gives you the Map Card (Pokémon Crystal)

The Map Card is an early-game item that activates your PokéGear’s Map function. With it, you can orient yourself around Johto and Kanto.

You’ll get the Map Card from an old man near the eastern entrance to Cherrygrove City. Just accept his offer to show you around town, and he’ll give you the Map Card for keeping him company.

Most players will talk to him and get the Map Card when they first visit the city, but it’s possible to miss it. Don’t worry though, you can come back for this item at any point.

How Does the Map Work?

The Map Card allows you to check out a map of the entire region on your PokéGear.

With it, you can:

  • See your current location.
  • Get a basic idea of how everything is connected.
  • Figure out where to go next.

This PokéGear feature works equally in Johto and Kanto. It automatically shows you the correct map corresponding to your current location.

To access it, choose your PokéGear from the START menu and navigate to the Map tab.
