# Location Repeatable?
1 Pickup ability – 0.5% chance to get this TM as a Pickup item after every Pokémon battle. Yes

TM10 Hidden Power can only be found in FRLG through a Pokémon with the Pickup ability. After a battle, any Pokémon in your party with Pickup will have a 10% chance to be holding an item. There’s a 5% chance that the item will be TM10.

But since Pickup only activates 10% of the time, you really have a 5% chance out of a 10% chance to get this TM (basically a 0.5% chance after each battle).

This is a repeatable method, so you can acquire multiple copies of TM10 via Pickup. But there are no other ways to get this TM in the game.

As for the move itself: Hidden Power is a Normal-type move, but its typing changes based on the user Pokémon’s Individual Values (IVs). The base Power of the attack is also dependent upon IVs, and can range anywhere from 30-70.

How Pickup Works (Quick Guide)

TM10 Hidden Power can only be obtained through a Pokémon with the Pickup ability.

After you win a Pokémon battle, any Pokémon with the Pickup ability in your party has a 10% chance to be holding an item. The item can vary from berries to Rare Candies.

When Pickup activates after a battle, the odds of picking up TM10 Hidden Power are 5%. And in FRLG this is true regardless of level, because the Pickup odds are the same across all levels.

So this means you basically have a 0.5% chance of getting the TM after each battle.

A 0.5% chance may seem slim, but there are ways of increasing your odds.

The quickest way to find Hidden Power is to design your party with 5 or 6 Pokémon with the Pickup ability. Each of them has a chance of picking up an item after battle, so this will greatly improve your odds of getting the TM.

Here’s a list of Pokémon that can have Pickup in FireRed & LeafGreen:

  • Meowth
  • Teddiursa
  • Phanpy
  • Aipom
  • Zigzagoon (trade from RSE)
  • Linoone (trade from RSE)

There’s no limit when it comes to obtaining pickup items, as long as you check after each battle and remove any held items they acquired.

Getting TM10 Fast

First, fill your party with multiple Pokémon that know the Pickup ability.

This could include 5 Pickup Pokémon + a high-leveled Pokémon to help you grind, or your party could consist of 6 Pickup Pokémon if you have any that are high-leveled enough.

Now just grind and beat a wild Pokémon in battle.

Note: The Pokémon with Pickup do not need to actually partake in the battle at all. As long as they’re in your party when you win a battle, they each have a chance to be holding an item.

After the battle, check if there are any held items on the Pickup Pokémon in your party.

If any of your Pickup Pokémon is holding TM10 Hidden Power, it will display once you take the item from them.

Hidden Power is the most unique attack in FireRed & LeafGreen.

Its Power and typing are completely dependent upon a Pokémon’s IVs.

The move’s Power can range anywhere from 30 to 70, with the potential to be a decent attack for a Pokémon with high IVs.

But despite its tendency to take your opponent off-guard, Hidden Power feels like more of a gimmick than anything else.

There are plenty of better TM moves to be found with much greater Power levels, which can also be tailored to your Pokémon’s strengths.

So you can farm for TM10 if you want to try using it for fun or with a specific strategy, but it’s generally not worth using in a typical playthrough.
