Where To Get Mystic Waters in Pokémon HGSS

In Cherrygrove City near the Mystic Water NPC (Pokémon HGSS)

In Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, there are two ways to get a Mystic Water. The first is given to you by a man just West of Cherrygrove City. And then another one can be found in the Ruins of Alph’s Water Stone room.

There are no other ways to get Mystic Waters in the game, so you can only acquire 2 of them naturally per save file in HG/SS.

The Mystic Water is a held item that increases the damage of Water-type attacks. When paired with high-power moves like Surf it can make your Water-type Pokémon much more powerful.

Method 1: Cherrygrove City

The first Mystic Water can be found in Cherrygrove City. It requires you to use the HM Surf, so you’ll need to defeat the Gym Leader in Ecruteak City first.

Step 1: Starting from the Pokémon Center in Cherrygrove City, head West until you reach the shore.

Step 2: Surf across the water and speak to the man on the small island. He will give you the Mystic Water for free.

The second Mystic Water can be found in a hidden room in the Ruins of Alph.

However, it can only be accessed with the HMs Surf and Strength. It also requires you to have a Water Stone in your bag.

Step 1: The hidden room can only be accessed by going through Union Cave. Start by entering the cave through the entrance on Route 32.

Step 7: You’ll come across a boulder blocking your access to set of stairs. Use Strength to move the boulder, and then continue up the staircase.

In the next room, keep heading up the staircases until you reach the exit of the cave.

Be careful not to walk off the ledges or you’ll need to go through the cave again.

Step 9: After entering the building, interact with the slab in the back of the room and then use a Water Stone from your bag. The wall will open, revealing a secret room.

Is Mystic Water Worth Using?

The Mystic Water is a held item that provides a 20% damage boost to all Water-type attacks.

Unlike most damage-boosting items, it doesn’t have any negative drawbacks. The lack of drawbacks makes it a low-risk, high-reward option.

It’s particularly useful when paired with a move such as Aqua Jet. This move always goes first but has a low base power of 40. If your Pokémon has a low speed stat, the Mystic Water plus Aqua Jet will allow you to outspeed opponents while still doing considerable damage.

If speed is not an issue, then the Mystic Water can be paired with other high-damage moves. Surf, for example, has a base power of 95. With the Mystic Water, this jumps up to 114, which is absolutely devastating for a move with 100% accuracy.

You can also get at least 1 Mystic Water well before fighting the Rock and Fire Gyms in Kanto, so it’s worth picking up if you haven’t already. The high damage boost with no drawback will enable you to make quick work of these Gyms.
