TM38 Fire Blast is one of the TMs that’s only available for sale at the 5th floor of the Goldenrod Department Store. It costs 5,500 Pokédollars, and you can get as many copies as you want.

TM38 Fire Blast Location

The Goldenrod Department Store is just northeast of Goldenrod City’s south entrance.

It is to the right of Goldenrod City’s Pokémon Center, just across the street.

Head inside the Goldenrod Department Store. Then, take the escalators or the elevator to the 5th floor (5F).

  • If you are taking the elevator, simply talk to the NPC attendant and select “5F” from the menu.
  • If you will be using the escalators, take the upward escalators on each floor until you see a green sign with a number 5 beside the floor’s elevator entrance.

You should see a single counter directly to the right of the escalators and the elevator exit.

Speak to the NPC behind the counter to bring up the menu for the TMs they have available for sale.

Using Fire Blast

Fire Blast Move Details
Type Fire
Category Special
Power 120
Accuracy 85
PP 5

Fire Blast is a Fire-type special attack move with 120 base power.

When it hits successfully, there is also a 10% chance that it will inflict a burn on the opponent.

Fire Blast has great base power but low accuracy and low PP.

But compared to other 120-power moves like Thunder and Blizzard that only have an accuracy of 70, its accuracy is still good. Plus, its low PP count can always be made up for by PP Up.

This usually makes deciding which Fire-type special attack move to teach your Pokémon more a matter of preference than of optimization. But it can also depend on the specific needs of your Pokémon.

Take Flamethrower as an example. It’s another Fire-type special attack move that has a good base power of 90 and 100 accuracy.

  • Any Pokémon that has high Special Attack, is supported by a Sunny Day-based team, or that has a setup move will likely not need the extra 30 base power that Fire Blast has over Flamethrower.
  • But a Pokémon that only has above average Special Attack and nothing to support it may depend on Fire Blast’s power to guarantee a K.O.

Fire Blast could also be used over Flamethrower as an option for maximizing the power of Fire-types with high Special Attack since it will be boosted further by STAB.

Overheat is even stronger than Fire Blast, with its 140 base power, but its harsh Special Attack drop makes it more suited to Pokémon that will not stay in battle long.

We’d recommend Fire Blast for the following Pokémon:

  • Ninetales
  • Arcanine
  • Dragonite
  • Houndoom
  • Magmortar
  • Salamence
  • Slowking
  • Altaria
  • Octillery
  • Tyranitar
