How To Get the Oval Charm in Pokémon ORAS

Inside Professor Birch's Lab in Omega Ruby

You will obtain the Oval Charm from Professor Birch after you see all 210 Pokémon in the Hoenn Pokédex (you do not need to register Jirachi). This means you’ll only be able to obtain the Oval Charm in the later part of the game.

As for this item’s effect: the Oval Charm will make breeding Pokémon in the Day Care faster.

After registering all 210 Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex, fly over to Littleroot Town.

Note: You do not need to catch all 210 Pokémon. Seeing them will be enough to clear this requirement.

Step 1: After landing in Littleroot, head down towards Birch’s lab.

Using the Oval Charm

The Oval Charm will increase your chance of finding an Egg in the Day Care.

In Pokémon ORAS, breeding cycles reset every 257 steps. Your chances of finding an Egg after 257 steps will be determined by two different factors:

  1. The Pokémon’s species. Two Pokémon of the same species will breed faster compared to two Pokémon of different species.
  2. The Pokémon’s Original Trainer (OT). Two Pokémon with different Ots will breed faster than two Pokémon from the same trainer.

Note: Pokémon from different species must belong to the same Egg Group in order to breed. Two Pokémon from different species and different Egg Groups will not generate an Egg.

Tip: You can use the Battle Resort’s Day Care to speed up the process and quickly reset breeding circles.

Fast Breeding at the Battle Resort Day Care

After leaving your Pokémon at the Battle Resort Day Care to breed, exit the Day Care and go all the way to the right. You should ride a Bicycle to make this process faster.

Once you run into this rock on the right side of the beach, push the circle pad up.

Keep the circle pad pushed up. Your character will continue moving, even after running into objects.

By doing this, you will be able to move in a circle around the Battle Resort, racking up steps.

You can use this method to reset the breeding cycles multiple times until your two Pokémon generate an Egg. This same method is also useful for hatching Eggs.
