1 | The Battle Frontier—Purchased from the Exchange Service Corner for 48 BP | Yes |
Focus Bands can only be purchased from the item seller inside the Battle Frontier. So this item is only available in the post-game.
Each Band costs 48 BP (Battle Points). You can earn BP by fighting in the Battle Frontier’s facilities.
Acquiring Focus Bands
You can only acquire Focus Bands by purchasing them from the Battle Frontier’s item seller.
The Battle Frontier opens up only after you’ve defeated the Pokémon League. This means you won’t get your hands on a Focus Band until after you’ve completed the main story.
You’ll find the Battle Frontier to the northeast of the Pokémon Center in the Battle Zone’s Fight Area.
After entering the building, cut through the Entrance Hall and exit via the door to the north.
In the middle of the Main Hall will be several kiosks making up a central marketplace. This is the Exchange Service Corner.
Speak to the clerk at the southwestern kiosk with the blue and white striped canopy.
Scroll through her inventory until you find the listing for the Focus Band.
Focus Band Details and Uses
The Focus Band is a held item that gives the holder a 10% chance to survive any attack that would otherwise cause it to faint.
Unlike the Focus Sash, the Focus Band does not require the holder to be at full HP in order to work.
Between the Focus Sash and the Focus Band, the Focus Band is a better item to use in the main game. This is because you’ll lose a Focus Sash permanently after it activates once.
But in versus battles and the Battle Frontier—where you don’t lose items for good—the Focus Sash is generally the more effective item. The Focus Band’s usefulness depends entirely on luck, and a 10% chance doesn’t amount to much. The Focus Sash is 100% effective at what it does (as long as the holder is at full HP).
Still, a similar but better item than the Focus Band is the Bright Powder. This item lowers the accuracy of moves targeting the holder by 10%. This means all moves have a chance to miss, not just the ones that would KO the holder.
