You’ll obtain the Works Key after you defeat a couple of Galactic Grunts in the Floaroma Meadow. This happens as part of the main storyline and can’t be missed.
Shortly after your first visit to Floaroma Town, your journey will take you through Eterna Forest and into Eterna City, far to the northeast.
But it turns out Team Galactic has taken over the Eterna Forest area for some dubious operation, and its Grunts refuse to let you pass over the bridge. You’ll need to make Team Galactic disperse so you can be on your way.
Ridding the area of the Galactic menace requires you to take down its commander inside the Valley Windworks (which Team Galactic have turned into an ad hoc base of operations). And to do that you must find the Works Key.
Acquiring the Works Key
When you first enter Floaroma Town, heal up at the Pokémon Center—you’ll be fighting several battles in the near future, and you won’t want to wake up back in Oreburgh City if you lose one. You might also want to stock up on Potions at the Poké Mart while you’re here.
When you’re ready, head toward the town’s eastern entrance.
Head east to exit Floaroma Town and enter Route 205.
Keep moving east until you run into a young girl standing in the middle of the dirt road.
The girl will explain that Team Galactic has shut down most of Route 205 and abducted her father, who is a worker for the Valley Windworks at the end of the road to the east. She will beg you to help get her father back.
You won’t be able to progress until you lend the girl a hand and force Team Galactic out of Route 205, so continue heading east toward Valley Windworks.
Turn north at the end of the road to find the Valley Windworks. A Galactic Grunt will be blocking the front entrance.
Speak to the Grunt and he will basically tell you to scram.
Even though you don’t say anything in response, he’ll allege that you’re giving him a suspicious look and will challenge you to a Pokémon battle.
Luckily, this battle is a cinch.
The Grunt will send out a single level 13 Glameow, which won’t be a problem for a Badge-carrying trainer such as yourself.

After the battle, the Grunt will run inside Valley Windworks and lock the door with his Works Key—but not before blabbing about a second Works Key being held by his co-workers in Floaroma Town.
The Grunt’s cohorts can be found causing trouble in the Floaroma Meadow, a colorful field of flowers just north of Floaroma Town. So it’s time to head back the way you came.
Move to the southwest to get back on Route 205’s main road.
Pass the bridge and the Windworks employee’s daughter as you head west back to town.
Enter Floaroma and move to the western edge of town.
When you reach the trees to the far west, turn north and cut across the flower field.
Enter the gap in the trees at Floaroma Town’s northwestern corner. This leads to the Floaroma Meadow.
As soon as you enter the Meadow, you’ll find two more Galactic Grunts hassling one of Floaroma’s residents.
The man they are intimidating is a seller of Floaroma Town’s famous Honey; apparently Team Galactic wants the Honey in order to entice more Pokémon for performing experiments on.
The Grunts will notice you eavesdropping, and they’ll challenge you to battle in order to keep you quiet.
These battles are a bit harder than the one with the last Grunt. For one thing, you’ll be fighting two battles in a row without a chance to heal between battles.
Also, your opponents will send out three Pokémon in total, including two Zubats that just love to confuse you with Supersonic. But if you use Potions where necessary, you’ll make it through this altercation with little issue.

Once your opponents are out of battle-ready Pokémon, they’ll scurry back to the Valley Windworks.
However, the duo will be in such a rush to escape that they’ll drop the second Works Key on their way out, which the Honey seller will pick up.
The Honey merchant won’t have any use for the item, so he’ll hand it directly over to you.
Works Key Details and Uses
With the Works Key in your possession, you’ll now be able to return to the Valley Windworks and unlock the front entrance.
This will allow you to storm the facility and take control back from the rest of the Galactic personnel, including the leader of this particular operation, Commander Mars.
When Mars is defeated, Team Galactic will vacate Route 205 and Eterna Forest.
This will allow you to reunite the Windworks employee with his daughter and, ultimately, be on your way to Eterna City.
