Pokémon Crystal Odd Egg: Location + Hatch List

You get the Odd Egg from the Day Care Couple the first time you visit the Day Care on Route 34. You’ll find this building just south of Goldenrod City.

This mysterious egg is special for three reasons:

  • It contains one of the seven “baby forms” introduced in Generation II.
  • The Pokémon inside has a remarkably high chance of being Shiny.
  • The Pokémon inside will also hatch knowing Dizzy Punch

You’ll get a Shiny Pokémon from the Odd Egg around 15% of the time.

Make sure to save before receiving the egg so you can reload if you don’t get a Shiny Pokémon on your first try.

Getting the Odd Egg (Day Care)

To get the Odd Egg, you must visit the Day Care Center on Route 34. It’s south of Goldenrod City in Johto, so we’ll start there.

Exit Goldenrod City through the south toward Route 34.

Keep going south, past a policeman, and you’ll see the entrance to the Day Care Center to the right.

Enter and talk to either the Day Care Man or Day Care Woman to get the Odd Egg. You need at least one free space in your party to receive the egg.

Tip: Use the PC in the top right corner of the Day Care to deposit a Pokémon in Bill’s PC to make room for the Odd Egg.

What’s in the Odd Egg?

The Odd Egg contains one of the seven “baby forms” introduced in Pokémon Crystal.

As a rule, Pokémon born from the egg are always female. The one exception is Tyrogue because all Tyrogue are male.

What makes the Odd Egg so exciting is the 15% chance of a Shiny Pokémon hatching from it.

This 15% chance is unevenly distributed among the seven possible Pokémon. Here’s how likely you are to get each possible hatchling from the Odd Egg:

The seven hatchling candidates can be divided into two groups based on how long they take to hatch from the Odd Egg:

Depending on internal game cycles, the exact amount may be up to 255 steps lower.

Tip: If you’re hoping for a Cleffa, Igglybuff, or Pichu, you should reload your save whenever the egg takes too long to hatch.
