TM32 Double Team is available as a prize from the Celadon Game Corner in Pokémon Crystal. You can receive it from the left window in the Prize Corner for 1,500 coins.

There are two ways to obtain the coins you’ll need for this TM:

  • Buy them for 1,000 PokéDollars per 50 coins (Total: 30,000 PokéDollars)
  • Earn them by playing Card Flip and hitting the Slot Machines at the Game Corner.

Prerequisites

Here’s everything you need to get TM32 Double Team:

  • You must have reached Kanto so you can travel to Celadon City.
  • You need the Coin Case found in the Goldenrod Underground to store coins.

Once that’s done, you’re ready to tackle the Celadon Game Corner.

Getting TM32 Double Team (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Find Celadon Game Corner southwest of the Pokémon Center in Celadon City.

Just head down the nearby alley to the south.

Buying the Coins

You can exchange PokéDollars for coins at the Coin Counter in the northwestern area of the Game Corner.

Coins are a bit pricey, costing 1,000 PokéDollars per 50 coins. Luckily, 1,500 coins aren’t all that many. You’d only need to spend 30,000 PokéDollars.

Defeating the Elite IV is the most efficient way to farm currency in Pokémon Crystal. Each run will pay out around 22,000 PokéDollars in total.

Going through the gauntlet once or twice to buy a Technical Machine isn’t all that troublesome, so this is definitely viable for TM32 Double Team.

Gambling for the Coins

There are two games to play at the Celadon Game Corner:

  • Slot Machines: Bet one to three coins to get payouts of up to 300 coins (for a Triple 7). Some machines are “luckier” than others.
  • Card Flip: Try to identify a face-down card. You can bet in a bunch of configurations, but betting all three coins on a single card (x24) is more profitable in the long run.

Earning 1,500 coins will take a while either way. But a lucky Slot Machine is the fastest option.

Tip: The 2nd Slot Machine in the third row from the bottom up is always lucky, but it’s only available in the Morning (4AM-10AM).

Exchanging Coins for the TM

Once you have enough coins you can go door to the Prize Corner to exchange your 1,500 coins for TM32 Double Team.

PP 15

Double Team is a utility move that raises your Pokémon’s chances of dodging enemy attacks.

This makes it fantastic to deal with enemies that rely on devastatingly powerful but inaccurate moves such as Guillotine, DynamicPunch, and Thunder.

At the same time, it can be useful for stalling tactics, or simply to give your Pokémon some survivability in the face of a strong foe.

Tip: Pairing Double Team with Baton Pass allows you to share the extra evasion with another Pokémon, opening the doors to some interesting strategies.

Many Pokémon can learn Double Team, but only a few can learn both Double Team and Baton Pass. Here are the best candidates:

Pokémon Type Location
Espeon Psychic Evolve Eevee with high Friendship during the day.
Girafarig Normal/Psychic Trade in from Pokémon Silver/Gold.
Ledian Bug/Flying Routes 2 and 37 (Morning).

Note: All of these Pokémon can learn Double Team through TM32, and Baton Pass by leveling up.
