The only way to get Lucky Eggs in Platinum is to steal them from wild Chansey. The easiest place to farm for Chansey is on Route 209 and on southern Route 210.

Since these Routes will be open to you shortly after you’ve received your third Gym Badge, you’ll be able to obtain as many Lucky Eggs as you need relatively early in the game.

Acquiring Lucky Eggs (Repeatable)

The only Lucky Eggs in Pokémon Platinum are held items that you can take from wild Chansey. You’ll encounter Chansey on Route 209 and the southern (non-foggy) section of Route 210, to the north and south of Solaceon Town.

Both Routes become available to you shortly after you’ve defeated Leader Fantina in Hearthome City and received the Relic Badge from her.

Although you can also find wild Chansey in the Trophy Garden, that’s a much more troublesome process. And that location won’t be available until later in the game anyway.

Every wild Chansey you encounter has a chance of carrying one of the following items:

  • A 50% chance of carrying an Oval Stone
  • A 5% chance of carrying a Lucky Egg

Because Chansey are rare Pokémon to start with (with only a 5% encounter rate), it can take a long time to find even one Lucky Egg.

That’s why it’s recommended you put together a specialized item-farming team before attempting to search for them. These teams use a combination of stealing moves and the Abilities Compoundeyes and Frisk to speed up the item-hunting process.

  • Compoundeyes will raise the chance of finding a Lucky Egg from 5% to 20%.
  • Frisk will then notify you whenever a Chansey is holding one.

This won’t make Chansey appear more often. But it’ll boost the odds of finding a Lucky Egg whenever you do run into a Chansey – and will cut down on time-consuming guesswork.

Once you’ve discovered a Chansey holding a Lucky Egg, you can either catch the Chansey or take the item by using a stealing move like Thief or Trick.

Then end the battle however you like. You will hold on to the Lucky Egg even if you run away.

Lucky Egg Details and Uses

The in-game description of the Lucky Egg.

The Lucky Egg is a held item that boosts the number of Exp. Points the holder gains from battle by 150%.

This item is especially helpful when training to defeat late-game Gym Leaders, the Pokémon League, and the increasingly difficult battles of the post-game content.

It should be noted that the Lucky Egg has no bearing on the experience doled out to teammates via Exp. Shares; those Pokémon will still receive the regular non-boosted number of Exp. Points.
