Every year on Spring 22nd, the Cooking Exhibition Festival is held in Mineral Town so the residents can show off their kitchen prowess.

The trick to winning the Cooking Exhibition comes down to just two things:

Cook a dish within the required category (this changes every year)
Submit whatever recipe has the highest stamina buffs for that category

This guide will cover all the things you need to know about winning the Cooking Exhibition, including the best recipes to make for each category, and how to prepare the dish in time for the festival.

Requirements

You can only join the Cooking Exhibition once you’ve upgraded your house to have the kitchen, and once you have all (or most) of the kitchen utensils available in the game.

The kitchen is included with the first house remodel you can buy from Gotts. To upgrade your house, visit his workshop once you have the following items:

3,000 G
150 Lumber
350 Stone

The kitchen and remodel will be complete after 3 days.

The farmer stands in the middle of the kitchen.

Gotts also sells Refrigerators so you can keep fresh produce on hand. The normal Refrigerator will cost 2,500 G.

You don’t need to have all the utensils to succeed in the contest, but it definitely helps to have options. The kitchen equipment can be purchased from Jeff at the General Store.

It will take at least 70 days for you to collect all the kitchen tools after upgrading your house, so plan ahead for the Cooking Exhibition!

Cooking Festival Details

Enter Rose Plaza anytime between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM to start the Cooking Festival.

To get to the plaza, head east from the path above your farm until you reach the very end, and go up.

Bon Vivant will greet you as you enter, and announce the category for the year’s Cooking Exhibition.

The categories are predetermined for the first 5 years of the game. After that, they will be randomly selected:

Year 1 – Juice
Year 2 – Dessert
Year 3 – Bread
Year 4 – Udon
Year 5 – Rice
Year 6 onwards – Randomized

After the category is announced, you need to leave the plaza and head back to your farmhouse to cook your dish.

Note: You’ll need to return before 6:00 PM or the festival will be over.

The farmer is teleported back to the farmhouse.

It’s noteworthy that there are certain dishes that Bon Vivant won’t accept for the Exhibition, even though they technically fall into one of the listed categories.

For example, Bon Vivant will refuse to judge Spicy Sandwiches, Stamina Booster, or Caffeine despite technically being classified as Bread or Juice.

Mayor Thomas rejects the farmer’s dish entry.

Just to be sure, you can stick to one of the listed recipes above or bring an extra dish. Once you reenter Rose Plaza, you can’t go back to your kitchen.

After you submit your entry to Mayor Thomas, Bon Vivant will start the judging.

He will taste your dish last and then announce the winner.

Tip: When the festival is over, you can talk to Bon Vivant behind the judges’ table and give him any gifts for bonus Love Points. This is the only time you can interact with Bon Vivant for the entire year.

His favorite gift is Elli Leaves, but he also loves receiving Hot Spring Eggs or Mushroom Rice.

Prizes + Benefits

Winning the Cooking Exhibition will earn you +20 FP with all the villagers present.

And every time you win the contest, you will also earn 10 Farm Degree Points which can raise your farmer’s rank. You can check your total FD Points by opening the Farm Degree menu on the bookshelf.

Also, this festival is the only time that Bon Vivant comes to visit for the whole year. So it’s the one chance you have to impress him!

Winning the Cooking Exhibition 5 times is actually one of Bon Vivant’s requirements for marriage. So if that’s your goal, this festival is worth planning for as early as possible.
