Cost to Build ₡180,000
Upkeep Cost ₡4,480/week
Tourism Value 120
Entertainment Value 400
Noise Pollution 50

The Zoo is a unique building that you can build with the Cities: Skylines After Dark DLC. Note that this is not the same as the zoo park area (made up of different zoo buildings) that you can build with the Parklife DLC.

To unlock the Zoo unique building, you’ll need to do three things:

  • Build a Fishing Pier
  • Build a Riding Stable
  • And reach the Busy Town milestone (this can be anywhere from 1,200 to 5,000 population, depending on the map)

Once you’ve done these things, you’ll be able to build the Zoo from the Tourism & Leisure tab of the Unique Buildings menu. It costs ₡180,000.

While it is expensive, it does provide a fairly high entertainment value of 400, while only producing 50 noise pollution. It is not a requirement for unlocking any other monument.

Note: All three buildings involved in this unlock — the Zoo, Fishing Pier, and Riding Stables — are from the After Dark DLC.

Step 1: Building a Fishing Pier

You’ll find the Fishing Pier by going to the Parks and Plazas menu and clicking on the Tourism & Leisure tab. It costs ₡10,000, and provides 150 entertainment value.

Build it on a sea or lake shoreline or along a riverbank. You can also build it on top of a quay.

The Fishing Pier will also need a road adjacent to it.

Step 2: Building a Riding Stable

The Riding Stable is also on the Tourism & Leisure tab. It costs only ₡6,000 to build and provides 125 entertainment value.

Zoo Unique Building vs. The Parklife Zoo Area

This zoo (unique building) is a single structure with a rather simple design.

If you want a more expansive and detailed zoo, you may want to consider the Parklife DLC.

Parklife lets you build a custom park area with separate ploppable enclosures for different animal types, as well as cafes and souvenir shops.

You can design and decorate your zoo area as you please, and potentially even turn a profit if you get enough visitors.
