The Berserk Gene is hidden in the river west of Cerulean City. It’s four steps left of a man standing in a flower field.

You can only access the river using Surf on Route 25, north of the city. From there, just follow the river downstream until you see the guy in a flower field.

Prerequisites

The only prerequisite to getting the Berserk Gene is reaching the Kanto region.

To reach Kanto, you must:

  1. Collect all eight Johto Gym Badges.
  2. Defeat the Elite Four and Champion Lance at the Indigo Plateau.
  3. Get the S.S. Ticket from Prof. Elm.
  4. Ride on the S.S. Aqua from Olivine City to Vermilion City.

From there, keep going north; you’ll be at Cerulean City soon.

Keep following the river downstream. There’s only one way to go, so you won’t get lost.

Eventually, you’ll see a guy standing on a flower field on the right. The Berserk Gene is hidden in a corner to the left of this NPC.

Press A while facing the water tile in the corner to pick up the Berserk Gene.

How To Use the Berserk Gene

The Berserk Gene is a consumable held item that raises your Pokémon’s Attack by two stages, roughly doubling it. On the flip side, it inflicts Confusion on the user.

Your Pokémon will use the Berserk Gene at the start of the battle without any prompting.

Consider using the Duplication Glitch to make copies if you want to keep using the Berserk Gene.
