The earliest place you’ll find Leftovers is in the trashcan at the restaurant in Celadon City. The restaurant is located in the southeastern area of town, east of the Celadon Gym.

You can access it right after landing in central Kanto for the first time.

But this guide will explore all available methods to help you get Leftovers in Pokémon Crystal.

Method #1: Trashcan in Celadon City Restaurant

Start at the Pokémon Center in Celadon City and head southeast through the nearby alley.

Start at Vermilion City’s PokéMart and head east.

Turn north once you reach the trees and you’ll see a massive Snorlax blocking the way into the Diglett Cave.

Press START, choose PokéGear, and navigate to the Radio tab with the left and right arrows. Once there, use the up and down arrows to tune into the 19.5 channel.

Note: You’ll need the Radio Card to access the PokéGear Radio, and the Expn. Card to use the Pokeflute channel in Kanto.

This will wake up the Snorlax and start a Pokémon battle.

Have your Pokémon use Thief during combat to take the Leftovers, or catch the Snorlax and take it manually from its held item slot.

Method #3: Trade Snorlax or Clefable from Pokémon R/B/Y

Any Snorlax or Clefable traded into Pokémon Crystal from a first-generation game (Red, Blue, Yellow) through the Time Capsule arrives with Leftovers.

Note: This method is by far the most complicated, but it’s also the only repeatable way to get more Leftovers.

The first step is to meet Bill at Ecruteak City’s Pokémon Center, then wait a day. This will unlock the Time Capsule.

You probably already did this by the time you start hunting held items.

Once you can access the Time Capsule, connect your Pokémon Crystal game to a Pokémon R/B/Y game where you have a Snorlax or Clefable in your party.

Here’s how that works, depending on what platform you’re playing on:

  • Game Boy / GBC: Connect both handhelds with a Nintendo Game Link Cable.
  • Game Boy Advance: Connect both handhelds with a GBA Link Cable.
  • 3DS: Virtual Console versions of Pokémon R/B/Y and Pokémon G/S/C can link up over the 3DS’s local wireless connection.

Note: Some emulator software allows you to do this as well. Well-known GBC/GBA emulator mGBA offers a built-in multiplayer option that makes it easy.

Then, go into any Pokémon Center in Crystal and climb the stairs to the second floor to find the Time Capsule.

In Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, you’ll act as if this is a regular trade. The NPC who handles trades is on the right side of the Pokémon Center.

Talk to the Time Capsule/Trade NPC simultaneously in both games. Save your game when prompted, then choose “Yes” when asked if you want to trade across time.

Note: Make sure you don’t have any Gen II Pokémon, Moves, or Items in your Pokémon Crystal party before trying to trade, or you’ll be turned away.

Once you’re inside the trading room, face the table in the middle of the room and press A (in both games) to start the trade.

Then, choose the Pokémon you’ll trade in both games and watch the cutscene.

Note: Remember that you can’t transfer Pokémon without receiving one in return. If you’re trading multiple Pokémon from R/B/Y, bring enough Pokémon to send back from Crystal.

Make sure you send a Snorlax or Clefable from your R/B/Y game.

It doesn’t matter what you send back from Pokémon Crystal.

Once the trade is complete, leave the Time Capsule and check your Pokémon party. The Pokémon you just received should be holding Leftovers.

Note: This method can be repeated, but you’ll need a different Snorlax each time. Sending Snorlax back and forth between both games won’t produce more Leftovers.

How Leftovers Work

The Leftovers are a non-consumable held item that restores 1/16th of the holder’s maximum HP at the end of each turn.

It’s perfect for high HP Pokémon like Blissey, Wobbuffet, and Snorlax.
