Pokémon FRLG Move Maniac: Location + How To Relearn Moves

Sitting with the Move Maniac NPC in Pokémon FireRed

The Move Reminder (also called the Move Maniac) is located on Two Island in the Sevii Islands. More specifically, the Move Maniac’s house is directly to the left of the Joyful Game Corner.

In FireRed & LeafGreen, the Move Maniac will cost one Big Mushroom or two Tiny Mushrooms to re-teach one of your Pokémon a past move it learned via level-up. Both types of mushrooms can be found as held items on wild Paras and wild Parasect.

Prerequisites

The Move Maniac NPC is located on Two Island. So the main prerequisites to get to the Move Maniac involve reaching the Sevii Islands.

Specifically you’ll need to do these things:

After obtaining the Tri Pass, you’ll be able to head to Two Island and access the Move Maniac.

Finding the Move Reminder (Move Maniac)

Step 1: Reaching Two Island

If you haven’t defeated Blaine yet, then that is the first step.

After you defeat Blaine on Cinnabar Island and walk out of the Gym, Bill will greet you and take you to One Island.

On One Island you’ll meet Celio, who will then give you the Tri Pass after Bill asks you to do him a favor.

Once you have the Tri Pass, simply head to the docks from One Island and board the Seagallop Ferries to Two Island.

Step 2: The Move Maniac’s House

Once you reach Two Island, head to the southeast side of the island.

Here you’ll see the Joyful Game Corner (the flashy building with a sign out front).

And directly to the left of the Joyful Game Corner is the Move Maniac’s house.

Now you can head inside and use the Move Maniac’s services to teach your Pokémon any moves they may have forgotten or missed at an earlier level.

How To Use the Move Maniac

The Move Maniac (or Move Reminder/Move Relearner) will teach your Pokémon any move that they learned at an earlier level.

However, you will need to pay the Move Maniac with either:

  • 1 Big Mushroom
  • 2 Tiny Mushrooms

If you have the right amount of mushrooms on you, then you’ll be able to use the Move Maniac’s services.

Simply talk to him and he’ll ask if you want to re-teach your Pokémon a move. When you say yes, you’ll be able to choose which move to teach your Pokémon.

After you choose a move and teach it to your Pokémon, the Move Maniac will take the mushroom(s) from you as payment.

Where To Get Mushrooms

Big Mushrooms and Tiny Mushrooms can be found a couple of different ways:

  • Recurring hidden items in Mt. Moon
  • Held items on wild Paras and Parasect

If you head to Mt. Moon, there are a few hidden item spots you can head to every now and then for recurring hidden items. Tiny Mushrooms and Big Mushrooms can both be found this way.

But the more reliable way to find Tiny Mushrooms and Big Mushrooms is to use Thief on wild Paras and Parasect.

Wild Paras and Parasect both have a 50% chance of holding a Tiny Mushroom, and they both have a 5% chance of holding a Big Mushroom.

So I recommend heading to Mt. Moon and using Thief on as many Paras as you can find.

This is generally the process you’d want to follow:

  1. Have a Pokémon lead your party that knows Thief (make sure this Pokémon isn’t holding anything)
  2. Use Thief on every wild Paras you find
  3. If it has an item then you’ll steal it immediately; If you get nothing then flee or defeat the wild Paras, then keep farming for more

You’ll know you found a Mushroom when a little bag bounces from the Paras to your Pokémon after you use Thief in battle.

Once you have two Tiny Mushrooms or one Big Mushroom (or as many as you can carry), just head back to the Move Maniac on Two Island and start re-learning any moves you want.
