There’s only one Full Incense you can get in HeartGold/SoulSilver, and it’s hidden in a slightly out-of-reach spot in Mt. Mortar. You will also need Rock Climb to access this spot, meaning you’ll need to get all 16 gym badges before you can reach this area and get the Full Incense.
And as for its effects:
- When this item is held by Snorlax, the Full Incense allows it to lay Munchlax eggs when placed in the Pokémon Day Care with a compatible Pokémon. This is the only way you can get a Munchlax to fill your Pokédex.
- The Full Incense also causes any Pokémon holding it to move last in battle. Since it does not impact the Pokémon’s Speed, it’s not affected by Trick Room. This mechanic works exactly the same as the Lagging Tail.
Full Incense Location (Step-by-Step)
To reach the Full Incense, you’ll need to be able to use Rock Climb outside of battle. That means you’ll need to defeat Gym Leader Blue in Viridian City first.
Once you’ve done that, Fly to Mahogany Town and head to the west exit onto Route 42.

Step 1: Carry on a little further west and you’ll come to one of several entrances to Mt. Mortar. Head inside.

Step 2: Once you’re inside, use Rock Climb on the steep set of climbable rocks on the right-hand side of the chamber.

Step 3: At the top, walk north a few paces until you come to an entrance that leads deeper into the cave. Go through it.

Step 4: Now simply follow the path up and around until you get to the intersection pictured below.

Step 5: At this intersection, take the north path.
Very soon you’ll see a Pokéball lying on the ground. This is your Full Incense.

How To Hatch a Baby Munchlax
Once you’ve got the Full Incense, you’re ready to breed a baby Munchlax of your very own.
To get one, you’ll need to put a female Snorlax holding the Full Incense in the Pokémon Day Care with either:
- A male Snorlax
- A male Pokémon belonging to the Monster Egg Group
- A Ditto (you can breed either a male or female Snorlax with Ditto to get a Munchlax)

If you did everything right, sooner or later your two stored Pokémon will lay an egg. Speak to the Day Care Man outside to retrieve it.
Although Munchlax eggs take a while to hatch, between 10,280 and 10,536 steps!
Pro Tip: If you have a Pokémon with Flame Body or Magma Armor (Slugma, Magcargo, Magby, and Magmortar in these games) in your party at the same time as an egg, it will hatch in half the number of steps.
