Where To Get TM71 Stone Edge in Pokémon HGSS

In front of the Battle Frontier Gate on Route 40 in HeartGold

TM71 Stone Edge is one of the many TMs at the Battle Frontier area that can only be exchanged for Battle Points (BP). It costs 80 BP, and you can get as many copies as you want.

But you’ll first need to defeat the Elite Four to gain access to the Battle Frontier.

Finding TM71 Stone Edge

The Battle Frontier is to the left of Olivine City.

If you have never been to the Battle Frontier before, you can start by taking Olivine City’s west exit. Just go west past Olivine City’s Pokémon Center.

This will lead you to Route 40.

Keep going west on this route, then enter the gate located at the upper left corner.

If you have already beaten the Pokémon League, the NPC managing the gate will not block your way.

Proceed through the gate and you should find yourself in the Frontier Access area.

Continue heading north through the Frontier Access area until you come across a sheltered entrance.

This building will take you into the Battle Frontier gate, which has several NPCs behind two counters on the sides of the entrance hall.

Keep walking and leave through the opposite end of the entrance hall to reach the actual Battle Frontier grounds.

You will see a set of stalls not far from the entrance. These stalls carry different items that you can get by exchanging Battle Points.

The red-striped stall is the one that offers TMs. From the entrance, this would be the closest to your right.

Speak to the NPC at this stall and you will be asked to select from 3 different categories of moves.

Choose the Physical Attacks category to find Stone Edge.

Key Takeaways:

  • Stone Edge is the most powerful physical Rock-type move in HGSS. Rock Slide has the second-highest base power at 75, paling in comparison to Stone Edge’s 100. This makes Stone Edge a great coverage option for physical attackers.
  • The high crit rate is a very nice added bonus. Its high crit ratio can come in handy for securing a KO. This is still luck-based though, so it shouldn’t be depended on to nab a victory.
  • Its low PP count and low accuracy could be troublesome. These things could even make the move too inconvenient to use at all, depending on your playstyle.

This mix of pros and cons is why Stone Edge is usually recommended for Pokémon that are frail but strong and fast, or Pokémon with monstrous Attack.

This is because they are simply expected to deal as much damage as possible within the duration they can remain in battle, no matter how brief.

We can recommend the following Pokémon for Stone Edge in HGSS:

  • Aerodactyl
  • Tyranitar
  • Heracross
  • Gallade
  • Machamp
  • Gyarados
