In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, there are two different ways to obtain a Cleanse Tag. The easiest way is by heading to Mt. Pyre where an NPC will give you a free Cleanse Tag when you talk to her. She’s located in the southwest corner of the first floor.

Alternatively you can use Thief to steal Cleanse Tags from wild Chimecho found on the summit of Mt. Pyre.

Method 1: Mt. Pyre (One-time Only)

Mt. Pyre is a Pokémon memorial site located inside a mountain on Route 122. The NPC who will give you a free Cleanse Tag can be found in the southwest corner of the first floor of the building. Simply talk to her to receive the item.

When you’re ready, fly to Mt. Pyre to get started.

Step 1: Go through the entrance to reach Mt. Pyre’s interior.

Step 2: Once you’re in Mt. Pyre, proceed north through the hallway, then turn left around the room’s center.

Method 2: Stealing from Wild Chimecho

Cleanse Tags can also be obtained as a held item on wild Chimecho. Chimecho can only be found on Mt. Pyre’s summit. However, they’re quite rare with an encounter rate of 5%.

And when you finally encounter Chimecho, there’s only a 5% chance it will be holding a Cleanse Tag always. So this process might take a while.

To take the item you can use a Pokémon that knows TM46 Thief. If you want more details on how to optimally farm held items from wild Pokémon then we have a complete guide on that subject here.

Here’s the full details on the encounter rates for Mt. Pyre’s summit:

Farming with DexNav Detector Mode

To increase the chances of finding a Cleanse Tag on Chimecho you can use your DexNav’s Detector Mode.

After catching a specific species of Pokémon, you can use the DexNav to track more of the same species in the wild. The DexNav’s search level increases with each encounter with this Pokémon, regardless of whether you catch it or not. As this level rises, the likelihood of encountering wild Pokémon carrying items also increases.

How the Cleanse Tag Works

In-game details for Cleanse Tag

The Cleanse Tag is a held item that reduces the likelihood of encountering wild Pokémon by 50% when the holder is the first member of the party. It has no effect in battle.

This item can help players avoid frequent battles with wild Pokémon, especially in caves or while surfing. While not as reliable as a Repel, it is a free way to lessen wild encounters.

Take note that Cleanse Tag’s encounter rate reduction is not applied to Pokémon with the following abilities:

  • Arena Trap
  • Illuminate
  • No Guard
  • Quick Feet
  • Sand Veil
  • Snow Cloak
  • Stench
  • White Smoke

However, Cleanse Tag still stacks with Intimidate and Keen Eye, which are abilities that have a 50% chance to avoid wild encounters if the wild Pokémon is 5 levels lower.
