1 | Held item (50% chance) from wild Happiny found in a Mirage Forest and Mirage Mountain | Yes |
You can only obtain Oval Stones by stealing them from wild Happiny. These Pokémon can be found on a specific Mirage Forest and Mirage Mountain, which you can only explore by using the Eon Flute.
The Oval Stone is a held item that, when held by Happiny and leveled up during the day, triggers its evolution into Chansey.
Getting Oval Stones

You can only get Oval Stones as held items from wild Happiny. These are also only found in two specific Mirage Spots:
- Mirage Forest, located west of Route 105
- Mirage Mountain, located east of Mossdeep City
To reach these areas you have to use your Eon Flute to soar towards the Mirage Spots shown in the map below:

After arriving at either of the Mirage Spots, just look for Happiny in any of the patches of tall grass in the area. Below is a list of all the wild Pokémon you can encounter in each area:

When you encounter a wild Happiny, there’s a 50% chance it will be holding an Oval Stone.
By using a Pokémon with TM46 Thief, you can steal the item from it and then flee the battle.

Finding a wild Happiny with an Oval Stone isn’t that uncommon. But you can make your job even easier by using the DexNav’s Detector Mode.

Especially considering Happiny’s lower encounter rate in comparison with other Pokémon in both Mirage Spots.
Tip: There’s a 5% chance that Happiny may be holding a Lucky Egg instead of an Oval Stone. A Lucky Egg is a very useful item when raising Pokémon, enabling the holder to gain 50% more EXP from battles.
What Do Oval Stones Do?

The Oval Stone is a held item classified as an Evolution Item. It has no effect in battle, but it’s a unique item specifically designed for Happiny’s evolution.
When a Happiny holding an Oval Stone levels up during the daytime, it evolves into Chansey.
After evolving, the Oval Stone is consumed and disappears.
