TM01 Hone Claws is obtainable through a TM seller in Slateport City’s outdoor market. This NPC also sells other TMs for 5000 Pokédollars.
When used, the move Hone Claws increases the user’s Attack and accuracy by one stage. It allows Pokémon, like Aerodactyl, to consistently land inaccurate moves, like Stone Edge, while providing a moderate boost in power.
TM01 Location & Price
Since the TM seller is in Slateport City, you have a couple prerequisites to get here. So you’ll first need to:
- Obtain the second Gym Badge from Brawly, Dewford Town’s Gym Leader
- Deliver the letter to Steven in Granite Cave
When you’ve done that, head to the docks at Dewford Town:
Step 1: Talk to Mr. Briney and ask him to take you to Route 109 (near Slateport City)
Step 2: Head north to Route 109
Step 3: Continue heading north to enter Slateport City
Step 4: Turn left to enter the Slateport Market
Step 5: The TM seller is on the right side near the north exit, standing under a blue tent
Here’s the list of all the TMs he sells:
TM | Price (in Pokédollars) |

TM01 Hone Claws | 5,000 |

HM01 Hone Claws is a Dark-type status move that boosts the user’s attack and accuracy by one stage.
You can raise any particular stat up to six times; here’s how much each stage modifies the stat value:
Stage | Main Stat | Accuracy |
---|---|---|
0 | x1 | x1 |
1 | x1.5 | x1.33 |
2 | x2.0 | x1.66 |
3 | x2.5 | x2 |
4 | x3.0 | x2.33 |
5 | x3.5 | x2.66 |
6 | x4.0 | x3 |
To take full advantage Hone Claws’ boost, use physical moves with a high base power that don’t have 100% accuracy. Some notable moves that benefit from Hone Claws are:
- Stone Edge
- Gunk Shot
- High Jump Kick
If you use Hone Claws once, all moves you use with an accuracy of 75% or higher will now have an accuracy of 99.75%.
Moves with 75% or lower accuracy might need at least two uses of Hone Claws to guarantee a hit. This strategy might not be worth it, as it gives your opponent two whole turns to attack while you set up.
Note that accuracy-boosting moves like Hone Claws do not increase the chances of landing one-hit KO moves, like Fissure and Sheer Cold.
Tip: Durant has the ability Hustle, which increases the damage done by physical moves by 50%, but lowers its accuracy to 80%. By using Hone Claws once, Durant can bypass Hustle’s downside while maintaining the massive damage boost.
