You’ll receive the Poffin Case by speaking with the Chairman of the Pokémon Fan Club in Hearthome City.
This can be done at any time after defeating Leader Gardenia at the Eterna City Gym and after receiving the Bicycle from Rad Rickshaw.
Acquiring the Poffin Case
You’ll get the Poffin Case from the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman, who can be found inside the clubhouse to the east of the Poké Mart in Hearthome City.
You can do this at any time after you:
The Poffin Case is technically an optional Key Item that you never have to obtain. However, you’ll need it if you plan on entering the Pokémon Super Contests that Hearthome City is famous for.
To find the Pokémon Fan Club’s clubhouse from the Hearthome Pokémon Center, start by heading south.
When you reach the white picket fences, turn eastward.
Pass the gap to the east of the Poké Mart and you’ll come to a red-roofed building with a heart sign on the front.
This is the Pokémon Fan Club’s clubhouse.
Inside will be a bunch of people and their Pokémon.
Speak to the elderly gentleman sitting on the couch, and he will introduce himself as the Fan Club Chairman.
The Chairman will start talking enthusiastically about the joy of Poffins, a special treat that Pokémon love.
He will then hand you a Poffin Case so you carry Poffins to feed to your own Pokémon.
Poffin Case Details and Uses
The Poffin Case is a Key Item that holds up to 100 Poffins.
You can acquire Poffins in two ways:
- Crafting them from Berries at Hearthome City’s Poffin House
- Buying pre-made ones from the Veilstone Department Store for 6,400 Poké Dollars each
Poffins are completely optional items that have no use in battle. Rather, they increase a Pokémon’s Contest conditions and help them perform better in Hearthome City’s various Super Contests.
Using the Poffin Case
To feed a Poffin to a Pokémon, you’ll first need to open the Poffin Case from your Bag’s Key Items pocket.
The Poffin Case will display a list of all the Poffins you have in your possession. They will be identified by the following characteristics:
- Flavor: Indicates which Contest stat(s) will be increased when the Poffin is consumed by a Pokémon
- Level: Indicates the amount of the stat increase
- Smoothness: Indicates how much the Poffin will raise the Pokémon’s Sheen—at maximum Sheen (255), the Pokémon won’t be able to eat anymore Poffins and its Contest stats will become permanent
The following Poffin flavors affect the following corresponding stats:
Poffin Flavors | |
---|---|
Flavor | Condition Improved |
Bitter | Smart |
Dry | Beautiful |
Sour | Tough |
Spicy | Cool |
Sweet | Cute |
Poffins don’t need to be just one flavor; they can exist in all sorts of combinations.
Certain rare Poffins will even boost all Contest conditions.
Once you’ve chosen a Poffin, you’ll select a Pokémon to feed it to.
Be aware of each Pokémon’s favorite food as you feed it. If you give a Pokémon a Poffin of its favorite flavor, its stat increases will be higher.
The Pokémon will then enjoy an increase of the stats that correspond to the flavors of the Poffin.
As a Pokémon’s Contest conditions increase, the Pokémon will be more likely to perform well in the Super Contest associated with that stat.
For instance:
Feeding a Pokémon lots of Bitter Poffins to increase its Smartness will help it fare better in Smart Contests.
By raising Contest conditions to 200 or more, you can also acquire Contest Scarves (one for each stat) from the Scarf Guy in Pastoria City. These scarves will boost your Pokémon’s Contest performances even further.
