You’ll automatically receive the Vs. Seeker from Professor Rowan’s assistant (Lucas or Dawn) during your first visit to Mt. Coronet.
This occurs early in the game, shortly after you’ve defeated Leader Gardenia and received the Bicycle in Eterna City.
Acquiring the Vs. Seeker
Soon after you’ve received the Bicycle from Rad Rickshaw in Eterna City, you’ll take the Cycling Road down to the junction between Route 206 and Route 207.
Your next step will be to head east toward the entrance to Mt. Coronet.
But before you can enter the cave, Professor Rowan’s assistant (Lucas or Dawn, depending on which character you chose in the beginning of the game) will stop you in your tracks.
You’ll make some small talk about the progress you’re both making on your respective journeys. Then, Lucas/Dawn will hold out both hands and ask you to choose one.
Pick either hand—both choices lead to the same result.
No matter which hand you choose, Lucas/Dawn will open it to give you a Vs. Seeker as a gift.
Vs. Seeker Details and Uses
The Vs. Seeker is a Key Item that scans nearby trainers and tells you if any are up for a match.
You’ll primarily use the Vs. Seeker to challenge trainers you’ve battled before to rematches, but it will also inform you of any trainers you have yet to have a first battle with.
Using the Vs. Seeker
To use the Vs. Seeker, move to an area where trainers are visible on the screen. The more trainers on the screen, the higher your chances of finding one to engage in a rematch.
Find the Vs. Seeker in your Bag’s Key Items pocket and select “Use.” You can also Register it as a hotkey item if you plan on using it a lot.
Using the Vs. Seeker will cause all the trainers on screen to react in the following ways:
- If any previously-battled trainers are up for a rematch, two red exclamation points (!!) will appear above their heads and the trainers will begin to rotate in place
- If any trainers on screen haven’t battled you before, a single red exclamation point (!) will appear above their heads
- If any previously-battled trainers do not want to battle you again, they will not react in any way
Then you can simply speak to each trainer to trigger the rematch.
During a rematch, the trainer’s Pokémon will typically be stronger than they were before, and you will earn more money and experience points for defeating them as a result.
There is no limit to the number of battles you can have with trainers who are open to rematches; if one doesn’t respond, you can simply recharge the Vs. Seeker and try again.
You’ll need to take 100 steps to fully recharge the Vs. Seeker.
Tip: The Vs. Seeker can be used to accumulate tons of money and experience in a short amount of time. We’ve created a separate guide detailing the best spots to use the Vs. Seeker.
