Calm Mind is a stat-boosting move. When used in battle, Calm Mind raises the user’s Special Attack and Special Defense stats by one stage each.
If Calm Mind is boosted by a Psychium Z, the move will turn into Z-Calm Mind. Aside from Calm Mind’s original effect, Z-Calm Mind will also reset the user’s lowered stats.
Calm Mind is a popular move in competitive play. Since Calm Mind boosts offensive and defensive stats, the move can be used both ways.
- On offensive teams, Calm Mind gives a significant stat boost to special sweepers. Bulky Pokémon will also benefit from the defensive boost.
- On defensive teams, Calm Mind gives special walls a solid defensive boost. The Special Attack boost can turn a defensive Pokémon into an offensive threat as well.
Certain movesets run Calm Mind along with Substitute. This strategy gives the user a free turn to set up, without having to worry about the opponent’s attack.
In the main story, Calm Mind is more useful on offensive-oriented Pokémon. Since most opponents in the main story are relatively weak, a single boost from Calm Mind is enough for a sweep.
