The chicken coop is used to hatch eggs into chickens that will then lay eggs for you. Since eggs are an important ingredient for many Spiritfarer dishes, having a steady supply of egg-laying chickens will make things much easier.
But since this is a late game building, constructing one can take a fair bit of legwork.
Building the Chicken Coop
Despite being a particularly useful building that will save you tons of work, Stella will not be instructed by any spirit passenger to build the chicken coop. This means that you can build it any time, so long as you have the needed requirements.
Before all that though, you need to first acquire the Expert Blueprint Station upgrade from Albert’s Shipyard, found at X: 61, Y: 64.
Step 1: Getting the Expert Blueprint Station
Once you’re at the shipyard, simply head on over to the upgrades menu and look for the blueprint upgrade. Here, you’ll find that it’s the fourth blueprint upgrade, which means that all previous blueprint upgrades must first be bought.
These are:
Blueprint Upgrade | Materials | Buildings Unlocked |
---|---|---|
Beginner | Free (acquired very early in the game) |
|
Hobbyist |
|
|
Craftsman |
|
|
Once you’ve progressed through the game and acquired all these upgrades, you can start working towards the Expert blueprint upgrade. Here’s what you’ll need for that:
Expert Blueprint Upgrade Requirements | |
---|---|
Material | Where/How to Get |
10 Iron Ingots | Made by smelting iron ore in the Foundry. Iron ore is mined at:
|
10 Wool Fabric | Made from wool thread at the upgraded Loom. Wool thread is made from Wool fiber, sheared from Sheep. Sheep can be found on:
Sheep can be tamed by giving them any plant-based food, after which they’ll follow you back on the ship. |
1,000 Glims | Gathered from selling items, completing tasks, and playing event mini-games. |
After getting the expert blueprint station, you’ll be able to build your very own chicken coop (along with the lounge and crusher).
Step 2: Building the Chicken Coop
Here’s all the materials you’ll need for this building:

How To Get Chickens from Eggs
Unlike the cow stall that automatically comes with a cow, the coop comes empty.
So to get your hands on some eggs, head on over to Oxbury at (X: 233, Y: 18) and walk until you find the Raccoon Store Inc. shop.
Here you can purchase eggs for 440 Glims apiece.
Aside from rare drops in floating crates, this is also the only place where you can purchase eggs.
Note: While you can immediately use these eggs for cooking, the shop sells them at limited quantities and takes time to “restock.” This is why we recommend hatching them into chickens for an unlimited supply of eggs instead.
How To Use the Chicken Coop
Step 1: Once you have the eggs, head back over to the chicken coop and interact with the small door inside. This is where you’ll place the eggs for hatching, although you can only hatch one at a time.
Step 2: After putting the egg inside, head back outside and interact with the feeder to place some seeds.
You can put any seed that’s in your inventory, but we suggest sunflower seeds since these are pretty easy to grow and stock. Otherwise, feel free to pick whatever seed you like.
Step 3: Just carry on with other tasks on your boat. After a day or two, go back inside the coop to check the newly hatched chick, walking around and feeding on the seeds.
It takes about a day or 2 for this chick to grow into a chicken.
Step 4: Now you can put another egg and repeat the whole process.
You can hatch up to six chickens inside the coop, and you will get a notification whenever it’s time to collect the eggs.
These can then be used for different recipes, like egg salad, sunny side up, pancakes, and omelettes, to name a few.
Just remember to always fill the feeder with seeds.
Note: you can also build more than one chicken coop, if you wish. However, the cost of the materials will double until the fourth copy.
Chicken Coop Improvement
If you want your chickens fed for longer so you don’t run out of seeds, you can get the chicken coop improvement upgrade blueprint.
To find it, simply head on over to Loneberg (X: -40, Y: 192) and use the zipline to get to the roof of the house. Here you’ll find a chest with the blueprint.
And here’s what you’ll need to build this blueprint:
