The Super Rod is the only fishing rod in Pokémon Black & White, and you’ll get it as a gift after you defeat the Elite Four and Team Plasma. After defeating Team Plasma, Police Officer Looker will visit you at your home in Nuvema Town and give you the Super Rod.
So this is one of the few key items you can only obtain in the post-game.
The Super Rod can be used by any body of water to catch Pokémon that are rare and fully-evolved. There are several water locations you’ll now be able to revisit with this handy tool in your bag.
Getting the Super Rod
After defeating Team Plasma for the final time, you’ll be teleported to your room in Nuvema Town.
From here, head down the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs you’ll spot two people sitting at the table that look like your Mom.
Your Mom’s lookalike will reveal himself to actually be an International Police Officer named Looker.
Looker will ask that you help him with a secret mission, which he reveals to be arresting Team Plasma’s missing Sages.
After agreeing to help Looker, he’ll give you the Super Rod.
Using the Super Rod
The Super Rod is very easy to use, and it works identically to most other Pokémon games prior to Gen V.
When you’re standing next to a body of water, use the Super Rod from the Key Items pocket of your bag to cast your fishing line into the water. (Or for a much faster fishing experience, the Rod can be hot-keyed and registered for quick access).
Once the Rod is cast, you’ll know a Pokémon is on the line when an exclamation mark appears above your head.
Using the Super Rod is a great way to catch strong Water-type Pokémon across all of Unova.
Rare and fully-evolved Pokémon like Poliwrath and Milotic can only be caught while fishing.
