Where To Get the Silver Wing in Pokémon Crystal

The old man with the Silver Wing (Pokémon Crystal)

In Pokémon Crystal, an old man in Pewter City will give you the Silver Wing for free when you speak with him. He’s standing outside near the city’s PokéMart.

But to reach Pewter City you’ll first need to wake up the sleeping Snorlax and gain access to Diglett’s Cave near Vermilion City. Crossing through Diglett’s Cave is necessary to reach the western part of Kanto.

And since all of this happens in Kanto, you can only get the Silver Wing in the post-game in Crystal.

Prerequisites

Getting to Pewter City once you’re in Kanto can take a bit of work.

Here’s a list of objectives to complete before you can reach Pewter:

  1. Fix the Kanto Power Plant near Cerulean City by retrieving the Machine Part.
  2. Get the Radio Card for your PokéGear at the Goldenrod Radio Tower.
  3. Get the Radio EXPN Card at the Radio Station in Lavender Town.
  4. Remove the Snorlax blocking the way to Diglett’s Cave by tuning into the PokéFlute channel on your Radio.

Cross Diglett’s Cave from the Route 11 entrance to the Route 2 exit, then follow the road northward from there. You’ll be at Pewter City right away.

Getting the Silver Wing (Step-by-Step)

Once you’re in Pewter City, find the old man taking a stroll right next to the PokéMart.

What is the Silver Wing for?

The Silver Wing allows you to encounter the Legendary Pokémon Lugia in the caves at Whirl Islands in southwestern Johto.

Lugia is located deep in the bowels of the Whirl Islands, two floors down from the entrance level.
