In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Friendship Checker NPC is your rival’s sister in Pallet Town. You’ll find her sitting at the table in your Rival’s home.
But she will only check the Friendship Level (also called Happiness Level) of your Pokémon after you’ve beaten the Elite Four at least once. So this feature is only available in the post-game.
Prerequisites
Since this NPC is in in Pallet Town, you can technically access the Friendship Checker at any time. But she will only check your Pokémon’s Friendship in the post-game.
So there’s only one prerequisite for using the Friendship Checker (Daisy) in Pallet Town:
- Defeat the Elite Four
After you’ve defeated the Pokémon League and have become the Champion, you can head back to your Rival’s house in Pallet Town and talk to their sister to check the friendship / Happiness levels of your Pokémon.
Finding the Friendship Checker
To find the Friendship Checker, head to Pallet Town (the first town in the game) and make your way to your Rival’s house.
Simply walk inside the house and talk to the girl inside sitting at the table – this is your Rival’s sister, and she’s the same NPC who gives you the Town Map as well.
If you haven’t beaten the Pokémon League yet, then Daisy will just give you some dialog about taking care of your Pokémon, a harbinger of things to come.
Once you’ve defeated the Elite Four and your Rival as the Champion, you can come back to Pallet Town and talk to Daisy again.
This time she will offer to groom your Pokémon.
When you select “Yes”, Daisy will groom the Pokémon and its friendship level will be boosted.
After Daisy has groomed your Pokémon, you can talk to her again and she will check the Happiness of the first Pokémon in your Party.
Note that Daisy doesn’t give you an exact number, but instead she says one of 6 distinct phrases that hint towards your Pokémon’s happiness level.
All Friendship Levels Decoded
When you talk to the Friendship Checker in FRLG she will check the Happiness level of the first Pokémon in your Party, and then say something about how the Pokémon feels.
You can determine your Pokémon’s Happiness based on what she says with the following chart:

| It couldn’t possibly love you any more than it does now. Your Pokémon is happy beyond words. | 250+ (Max Level) |
| It looks very happy. | 200-249 |
| It’s quite friendly with you. Keep being good to it! | 150-199 |
| It’s warming up to you. Trust must be growing between you. | 100-149 |
| It’s not quite familiar with you yet. | 50-89 |
| I don’t like the way it glares at you. Could you try being a little nicer to it? | 1-49 |
Daisy will always check your Pokémon’s happiness for you, but will only groom your Pokémon on occasion, so make sure not to waste those opportunities!
